gig 5 E ,Z! IIIIIIIIIIIII-IIIIQIIIHIH[ILLI u WITNESS I I JV'VZEW'TOR Attorney NPETEHS, PHOTO-LITHOGRAPNER, WfiSHNGTON D C UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE,
OTTO JUN KERMAN, OF OENTRALIA, ILLINOIS.
IMPROVEMENT IN BUCKETS FOR CHAIN-PUMPS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 172,747, dated January 25,1876; application filed September 11, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, OTTO JUNKERMAN, of Oentralia, in the county of Marion and in the State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Buckets for Chain- Pumps; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangementof a chain-pump bucket, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in which- Figure l is a side view of my chain-pump bucket. Fig. 2 is a vertical section, and Fig. 3 a plan view of the same.
The stem or shank of my bucket is formed of a rod or thick wire, bent at one end to form a loop, A, and at the other end to form an eye,B, the ends of the wire coming together, as shown, and forming a shoulder, a.
On the loop A is cast, or otherwise permanently aflixed, a circular disk, 0, having a vent, to, through it at or near the center.
On this disk is placed a leather washer, D, having a slot across the center, for the passage of the eye B, and on top of the Washer is placed another disk, E, which has also a slot across the center to pass over the eye B.
In the upper surface of the disk E is a groove across the center, and at right angles with the slot in the disk. Through this groove is passed a wedge-shaped key, d, which goes under the shoulder a, and thus firmly unites the parts together.
When the leather gets worn it can easily be removed and another Washer substituted.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination of the shank-forming loop A, eye B, and shoulder a, the disk O, with vent m, washer D, slotted and grooved disk E, and key (I, all substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 25th day of August, A. D. 1875.
Witnesses: OTTO JUNKERMAN.
