UNITED STATES PATENT, Orrron HENRY H. H. GROSSKOPF, or PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVEMENT lN COMBINED SHIRTS Al\lD DRAWER'S.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 17 1,124, dated December 14, 1875 application filed October 13, 1874.
new and useful Improvement in Combined Shirts and Drawers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a clear and exact description of the nature-thereof, sufficient to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention app'ertains to fully understand, make, and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings making part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a front view of the device em- -bodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a transverse section in line 00 00, Fig. 1.
Similar letters of reference indicate corre spending parts in the two figures.
My invention consists in a combined shirt and pair of drawers with a flap or fall integral therewith, said fall passing from the rear under the crotch to the front, where it is buttoned and fastened, whereby provision is made for purposes of necessity, and the shirt is held down and prevented from riding upward.
Referring to the drawings, A represents an outer or under shirt, and B a pair of drawers, which is integral therewith or made in one. The shirt may open in front or rear without in either case departing from my invention, and be fastened in any well-known manner. 0 represents a flap or fall, which is arranged at the rear of the drawers, and opens'to permit access thereto. The flap will be continued to pass under the crotch of the wearer, and is buttoned or fastened in front, so as to be readily accessible thereat, and at the same time draw down the bosom of the shirt. It
will be seen that the shirt will set nicely, as
the drawers prevent the rising or upward riding of the shirt. The same is true of the drawers, since they are sustained by-the shirt, and thus prevented from falling or working down, whereby the great inconvenience in shirts and drawers at present in use is overcome. The long tail of a shirt is also dispensed with, and thus there is great economy in my invention. Besides this there can be no gathering of the shirt around and below the waist of the wearer, thus rendering the shirt portion exceedingly comfortable.
When a person applies the garment the shirt and drawers will be put on, as usually; but it will beseen that the drawers areimmediately supported, and require no buttoning or strapping to hold them in position. The fla'p O is now closed and fastened, and the garment is properly on the body.
In cases of necessity the flap is let down after the manner-of a fallor drop, whereby the other'portions of the drawers are not disturbed in any wise, and the front of the body is not uncovered, thus preventing exposure thereof and obviating liability of the wearer taking cold.
Having thus described my invention, what Iclaim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combined shirt and drawers, having the rear flap 0 extending forward underthe crotch and upward in front, substantially as
