LINGERIE CLASE.
Application filed July 6, 1927. Serial No. 203,747.
My invention relates to a lingerie clasp and has for its principal object the provision oi a relatively simple, practical and inexpensive device that is especially designed for engaging and holding in proper position the shoulder straps of lingerie, said device functioning as a readily detachable and flexible connection between lingerie straps and the shoulder portion of an outer garment.
The subject matter of my present application is an improvement upon thelingerie pin disclosed in my co-pending application for U. S. Letters Patenhfiled April 11, 1927, Serial Number 182,767.
Further objects of my invention are to provide a lingerie clasp that includes a loop or eyelet formed from a single piece of wire or thelike, which loop or eyelet is constructed so that it may be threaded or inserted through a portion of the outer garment, and serve as a point of attachment for a claspv that engages the shoulder straps' of lingerie, and further, to provide a device of the character referred to that may be easily and quickly manipulated when applied to or detached from an outer garment and lingerie straps, and, further to provide a lingerie clasp that is inexpensive of manufacture, and which will be very ei fcctive in performing the functions for which it is intended.
With the foregoing and other objects in view, my invention consists in certain novel features of construction and arrangementof parts that will hereinafter be more fully described and claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which Fig 1 is a perspective View of the shoulder portion of a garment with parts broken away in order to show the lingerie clasp in position on said garment, and in engagement with the shouldergstraps of lingerie;
Fig. 2 is atop plan View of the clasp.
Fig. 3 is a side elevational view of the clasp.
Fig. 1 is an enlarged view showing the wire 2 loop or eyelet engaged in the shoulder seam of formed from a single piece of wire that is bent to form a pair of parallel members 10 and 11, the same being spaced a slight distance apart, and at one end these paralle members are connected bya portion of the wire that is bent to form a substantially triangular loopv or eyelet 12, the outer portion of which 13 is pr ferably straight and occupies a position substantially at right angles to the plane occupied by the members 10 and 11. lhe end of member 10 is bent inwardly so as to form a short inturned coil 14, and the outer portion of member 11 is bent around said inturned coil 14 in the same plane therewith, thereby forming a return bond 15, and from this return bend, the terminal portion of the section of wire is bent to form a straight member 16, that lies directly against the outer side of member 10. The end of member 16 is pointed as designated by 17 in order that it may readily pass through fabric.
Elie lingerie strap engaging member of the clasp is formed from a narrow strip of sheet metal having a certain degree of resiliency, and this strip or" metal is bent at its center to form a straight member 18, the free end of which is bent inward to form a short curved seat 19.
The opposite portion 20 of the clasp is spaced apart from and overlies member 18, and the free end of said'member 20 is rebent outwardly to form a hook 21, the terminal portion 22 of which is bent outwardly to a slight degree and the space between this out wardly bent terminal portion and the adjacent portion of member 20 is approximately equal or a slight degree less than the diameter of the wire forming the loop or eyelet member of the clasp. Thus the straight portion 13 of said loop or eyelet member may, with slight pressure, he forcedbeneath the terminal portion 22 of the hook when the parts of the clasp are assembled or disconnected. By bending the end of member, 18 inwardly and bending the end of member 20 outwardly to form the curved portions 19 and 21, said curved portions will cooperate toretain the strap engaging member in closed position when the outturned hook 21 is with slight pressure forced into the inturned curved seat 19. and at the same time hook 21 is posi't-io11ed-so that it may be readily'engaged in eyelet 12.
In applying, the loop or eyelet member of he clasp to the shoulder portion 01": an outer I. garment pointed end 17 member 16 is inserted tln'ough a'plortion of the fabric, on the inside of the shoulder of the outer garment, Jreterably a shoulder seam, and after this pointed end has been inserte'd through the fabric it is again inserted through said fabric so as to bring the point on to the surface of the fabric, and-the loop, or eyelet is now manipulated so as to be completely turned around, or returned to the position thatit originally occupied when the pointed end 17 was first'inscrted through the fabric. Th usth'e loop. or eyelet-isthreaded through a short'portion ofthe goods in the shoulder of the garment, and when so arranged the loop portion 12 and-member ll' are exposed and the members '10 and lfiare covered by the fabric to which the device is attached.
'Ihe strap engaging 'in'ember otthe device, while' in'open position, as-illustrated in Fig. 5-; received the lingerie shoulder straps, after which the free en'ds -of the members 18 and 20 are pressed together so that the rounded end ofh'oole 21 engages in" the rounded end 19, and due to the resiliency =01. the metal in the parts 19==and 2 1 and the shape of said member 19, the 'hook 21' will be retained in the curved p'OltlOlr l sU asto securely retain the-engaged shoulderstraps;
The strap: *engagingvmember of the device iscon nec ted to the-loop oreyelet by engaging th'e"hook-2 1,* in loop 12,- an'chthus when the parts-' are properly connected the lingerie straps will be conveniently and comfortably retainedin proper 'position upon the shoulder of the wearer; and when desired the strap engaging member of the device may be readily disconnectdfronr the loop or eyelet by disengaging hook 21't'ro1'n thecurved member 11 Iir'Fig. 6 I'haveillustratedmodified form of'th-e'strap. engaging member, and this form comprises a pair of straight strips of narrow metal 23 and'24'tlr-at are connected by a hinge joint 25 at one end, and the free end of memb e1 24 b'eingfcurved upward tote-rma seat 26 forthe dowinvardly curved end 27 of mem- Whereth is forlmof device isused it isnecessaryto locate the lingerie shoulder straps betweentlie members 23 and 2d, and then I pass theeurveu end of one of the inembers' 23 or 24 t-hro'ughthe loop: 19"be'fore the ends of said members are connected by pressing the eurved end Q'T'into the curved seat ilti;
To rein ovelheeyclet or loopfrom the gar- 'mer1 t it ison=ly necessary to reversely rotate said loop 'or eyelet'so that the sanie' makes a complete'turn, and in sodoing the device-and thefabric' in which it is seated are manipuhated so'th'at all partsot said device pass th ronglr the openings formed in: the fabric and-l6 pass'is engaged beneath the inturnei'l coil 14, thus enabling the loop or eyelet to be readily turned and removed.
In the modified construction illustrated in Fig. 7 the engaging portions of the free ends oftheai'ms of the strap recei ing member are provided with coinciding depressions 28 that serve to interlock the free ends of the members when the same are closed. I
A'lingerie clasp of my in'iproved constructionis comparatively simple, is capable of bein easily and quickly applied to or detached from a garment and lingeries straps, and pro vides an cllicicn-t and convenient support and retainer for-theshoulder straps of under garments and the like. 7 y I It will be readily understood t-hat minor changes in the size, form and construction of the various parts of my improved lingerie clasp may be made and substituted for those herein shown and described, Withoutdeparting from the spirit of my invention, the scope of which is set forth in the-appended claims.
