To all whom it may concern; 1
Be it known that we, EDWARD A. RAY- MOND and WILLIAM JENSEN, citizens of the .United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented new and useful Improvements in Garment-Supporters, of which the following is a specification.
p This invention relates to an improvement in garment supporters. Its object is to provide a garment supporter for such people as ObJOOt to those having elastics, for health as well as for sanitary reasons.
With this object in view the supporter is constructed in the shape of a link or loop with a slightly tapering slot at each end into which a fold of the garment can be drawn and held firmly, and to prevent it from slipping out of one slot when the hose or other garment is attached to the other taper slot a catch is provided. Such a catch maybe placed at one or both ends of loop adjacent to the tapering slot or slots. Said catch is pivoted to one branch of loop and when closed is locked by a bosson the catch which fits into correspondlng indent in the loop. The point of said catch extends across the taper slot and under a hump or raised part in the other branch 0pposite the pivotal point of the catch. The 0 dice of this hump is to keep the two branches in plane with each other by supporting the point of catch so that the garment will not *ork out between the oint of the catch and the opposite branch of loop, which it'would do if there were no hump provided for support. The natural elasticity of the garment is by this double ended loop utilized to hold the garments.
In the drawings, Figure l is a front view showing the device in place for supporting a stocking. Fig. 2 is aperspective of the device. Fig. is a-plan view of the device with the catch open. Fig. 4 is an edge view of the same. 4 Referring specifically to the drawings, th
. supporter comprises a loop or link 10 having at opposite ends two V-shaped slotted extensions 11 and 12. The loop is preferably made of fiat sheet metal from which it may readily be stamped.
side of the loop.
I 14 indicates a catch or deteht which is pivoted at 14 to one side of the loop near the mouth of the V-shaped slot in the part 11,
and the pointed front end 14: of this catch is adapted to enter or project under the hump or raised keeper 13 produced in the opposite The opposite or rear end of the catch is shaped to lie in parallelism with the branch of the loop when the catch is closed, and has a boss 14* which springs into a depression 14 in the arm of the loop and holds the catch closed.
In the useof the device, it is attached to the under garment by drawing a fold of the garment into the V slot 11. The catch is then closed and engages said fold under the part 13 acting thereby to fasten the device'to the garment so that it cannot become detached-without releasing the catch 14. A fold of the stocking is then brought within the lower V slot 11, and is thereby held.
The device is capable of various uses other than that indicated above. It may be used to attach any two garments together, or hold I different parts of the same garment, for eX- ample as a sleeve holder.
l/ve claim:
1. A device of the kind stated, comprising side of the loop having a hump forming a keeper, and a catch pivoted to the other side of the doop and having an end extending across the slot and adapted to engage in the keeper.
2. A device of the kind stated, comprising a loop having a tapered slot at the end, one side of the loop having a keeper and the other having a dent, and a catch ivoted to the loop and having at its rearenc a boss engageable in the dent, and extending at its front end across the slot and engageab e in the keeper.
In testimony whereof we have signed our names to this specification in the pr sence of two subscribin witnesses.
