CIGARETTE CASE FOR USE IN CONNECTION WITH SELF-LIGHTING CIGARETTES.

This invention relates to cigarette cases and more particularly to cases designed for use in connection with self-lighting cigarettes.

An object of the invention is a cigarette case provided with means for holding a detachable strip of abrasive mate-rial for use in connection with self-lighting cigarettes.

According to the present invention, selflighting cigarettes are supplied to the consumer in the usual package which has detachably secured to one of the lateral faces thereof a strip of abrasive material against which the igniting substance of the cigarette may be rubbed for lighting the same. A cigarette case of the usual type which may be constructed of some precious metal is provided for conveniently carrying such cigarettes. In order that the cigarettes may be lighted without recourse to the package in which they are originally sealed, the customary retaining arm in the interior of the case is provided with grooves for the inser tion of the strip of abrasive material which may be detached from the original package. In this manner, the smoker is supplied a renewal of abrasive material with each purchase of cigarettes, such abrasive material being adapted for use with the cigarette case.

Other features and objects of the invention will become evident by reference to the following description read in the light of the accompanying drawings illustrating the same, wherein Figure 1 is a perspective view of a package -in which self-lighting cigarettes are supplied to the consumer;

Fig. 2 is a perspective view of a cigarette case embodying the invention and in open position; and

Fig. 3 is a cross-section of the cigaretteretaining arm.

Referring now to the drawings, 10 indicates a package in which cigarettes may be supplied to the consumer according to the usual procedure. The cigarettes in this instance being self-lighting are provided with tips of suitable material for igniting the same and therefore there is detachably Sc.

cured to one of the faces of the package 10 astrip of abrasive material 11 against which the igniting tip of the cigarettes may be rubber. Inasmuch as the cigarettes per se form no part of this invention, they are not illustrated or described at any length herein. For convenience, it is usual to remove cigarettes from their original package and place them in a case usually formed of some precious metal. As shown in Fig. 2, a cigarette case 12 is provided with a hinged retaining arm 18 for holding the cigarettes in place. In order that the smoker may utilize such a cigarette case in connection with selflighting cigarettes, the edges of the arm 13 are turned upwardly and inwardly to form grooves 14 in which a strip of abrasive material may be inserted. Once inserted, the strip may be used for igniting cigarettes for a suitable length of time after which it loses its property as an abrasive material and no longer is of any value.

. In practice, the consumer upon purchasing cigarettes may remove them from the package 10 and place them in the case 12. At the same time he may detach the strip 11 from the package 10 and insert it in thegrooves 14 of the arm 13.' When desired, cigarettes may be removed from the case 12, the igniting tip thereof rubbed against the abrasive strip 11 and the cigarette thereby lighted for smoking. After the strip has been used a sufiicient length of time to destroy its property as an abrasive, it may be removed from the case and a similar strip detached from a fresh package of cigarettes substituted therefor.

It is to be understood that the present invention is not limited by the scope of the illustrated embodiment, but is to be limited only by such structures as come Within the terms of the following claims.

I claim:

1.-A cigarette case comprising hinged top of means for holding cigarettes in said case and for holding a detachable strip of abutsive material comprising an arm hinged Within said case, the edges of said arm being turned upwardly and inwardly forming slots for the reception of said strip.

3. The combination With a cigarette case of a hinged arm therein for holding cigarettes in the case, said arm being provided with means for detachably holding a strip of abrasive material.
