rnornoron Application filed September 19, 1929. Serial No. 898,644.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in a'protector. 1
One object of the invention is to provide a protector specially designed for app1ica- 5 tion to cigars and cigarettes and whlch has been speclally designed for the purpose of surrounding the lighted end of a cigar or cigaretteso that the same will not 'be liable to ignite an inflammable support on which the l" cigar or cigarettemay be laid.
Another object of the "invention is to provide a protector of the character described which will catch the ashes and preventthe same from dropping onto the floor or from '15being blown into the eyes of the smoker while ridin as in an automobile.
A still urther feature of the invention is to provide a rotector of the character described that wi 1 be neat in appearance, may
be cheaply and easilymanufactured and readily applied.
With the above and other objects in view the invention has particular-relation to certain novel features of construction, use and I a arrangement of parts, an example of-which is given in this specification and illustrated in j the accompanying drawings wherein:
Figure 1 shows a side view of the protector, as applied'to a cigar.
Figure 2 shows a longitudinal sectional 4 view thereof. Figure 3 shows an end view thereof, and Figure 4 shows the type of protector to be used on a cigarette, pa-rt1a11y-in section.
Referring now more particularly to thedrawings, wherein like numerals of refer- 'ence desi figures t enumeral 1 designates an elongated oraminated hood, which may be made 40 of any desired size for different sizes of the arcuate complemental' clam jaws 3, 3, surrounding which there is an e astic clamp ring 4. These jaws are attached to the liood in any preferred manner and when the cigar or cigarette is inserted in the holder 5, the
jaws clamp the holder andhold the protector in lace. y
urrounding the hood there is an external annular rib 6, so that when the lighted cigar or cigarette is laid down, the lighted. end thereof will be held above the surface by said rib, to-prevent the burning of the ob'ect on which said cigar or cigarette is place The drawings and descri tion disclose what is now considered to be t, e referred form 00 of the invention byway of i1 ustration only, while the broad principle of the inventionwill be defined by the appended claim.
What I claim is A protector of the character described comprising an elongated tubular hood formed of foraminated material, one end of which'is closed, clamp jaws attached to the other-end of the holder and a single ring around the jaws to contract said jaws.
' In testimonywhereof I have signed my name to this specification.
. CORNELIUS B.'HICE. I
ate similar parts in each of the cigars or cigarettes and which is formed to conform to the contour of the cigar or cigar'ette over which the hood is fitted. The outer end of the hood is'pre'ferably closed 45 by adisk 2. The other end of the hood carries
