UNlTED STATES PATENT @FFTCE.
ROBERTG. H. -RODFS, OF WEST lBEND, WISCONSIN.
GIGAR TIP.
To all whom it may concern:
dent of the city of West Bend, county -of Washington, and'State of -Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Cigar-Tips, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in cigar tips, the object being to inclose the tip or mouth end of a cigar so that the same may be kept in a clean and sanitary condition, the tip to be removed before the cigar is smoked.
A further object of my invention is to provide a cigar tip as stated, which may take the place of the ordinary band for designating the brand of the cigar.
A further Object of my invention is to provide an article as stated which shall be simple of construction and efiicient in operation.
Other objects wilL appear hereinafter.
With these objects in view my invention consists in the novel construction and arrangements of parts hereinafter described and claimed.
My invention will be best understood by reference to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, and in which Figure 1 is a perspective-view of a cigar to which my improved cigar tip is applied, Fig. 2 is a perspective view showing the cigar tip only, Fig. 3 shows the blank from which said tip is formed, Fig. 4 is a perspective view of a modified form of cigar tip, Fig. 5 shows the blank from which the modified form of tip is made, and Fig. 6'is a longitudinal section of the cigar tip shown in Fig. 2. v
The preferred form of my invention. as illustrated in the accompanying drawings, comprises a conical paper tip 1 which is formed upon the cigar end from a sheet of paper 1 which is preferably segmental in In Fig. 2, 3 indicates the overlapped edges 7 of the conical tip which may be pasted or.

otherwise secured together. After the cone Be it known that I, Ronnlrr G. H. RoLFs,-
a citizen of the United States, and a resi-' -other *sealing com ound 2, thus rendering 'the cigar tip proof against "the entrance of moisture to the tip of the cigar when the clgar tip is applied thereto.
The modified form of cigar tip as shown in Figs. 4 and 5 is made fro-m a sheet of paper 1" rectangular in form. While this is the simplest possible form of blank, crimping 3 is rendered necessary in order to form a cone as shown in Fig. 4. The tip of this cone may be sealed if so desired the same as that of the preferred form.
As aforesaid, the object of the sanitary cigar tip as herein described, is to maintain the tip of the cigar in a clean and sanitary condition, but it is obvious that the same may be used instead of the ordinary cigar band for indicating the brand of the cigar. Hence, when the make of the cigar is placed on the cigar tip as shown in Fig. 1, a cigar band is unnecessary. 'It is understood that this cigar tip is to be removed before the cigar is smoked and does not serve the function of a mouth piece, otherwise the inner walls of the tip would be covered with an adhesive so that the cigar tip would be permanently secured to the tip of the cigar.
readily be constructed without being'sealed.
A cigar tip of the construction set forth is economical to manufacture, neat of appearance and efiicient in operation.
While I have illustrated and described the preferred construction for carrying my invention into effect, this is capable of variation without departing from the spirit of the invention. I, therefore, do not'wish to 'be limited to the exact details of construction set forth but desire to avail myself of such variations and modifications ascome within the scope of the appended claims.
Having described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. A cigar tip comprising a conical imperforate paper casing formed to frictionally fit the tip of the cigar, pasted along one radial edge and a sealing material coating the apex thereof, substantially as described.
2. The method of preserving cigar tips in :1 sanitary condition comprising first, rollin a piece of paper tightly upon the tip of the cigar so that said tip is completely surrounded therewith; second, pasting the free edge of said paper; third, dipping the paper covered tip of the cigar in melted sealing wax, substantially as described.
The method of preserving cigar tips in a sanitary condltlon comprising first, Wmding a segmental strip of paper tightly upon the tip of the cigar; second, pasting the free radial edge of said strip; third, seeiing the 15 apex of said cigar-containing paper tip, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
