Description
Aug. 12, 1930. H. H. HQNIGBAUM CIGARETTE Filed Sept. v12, 1929 I N VE N TOR. Har/y Hoff/"9:60am
Patented Aug. 12, 1930 UNITED STATES HARRY H. HONIGBAUM, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
CIGARETTE Application filed September 12, 1929. Serial No. 392,017.
This invention relates to cigarettes and more particularly to cigarettes embodying line cut tobacco contained within a paper wrapper. As cigarettes are made a thin paper is used which, in practice, is frequently chemically treated and is objectionable to many smokers because of such chemical treatment and the further fact that the paper has a tendency to adhere to the lips and make the w lips sore. It is for this reason that cork tipped cigarettes are preferred by many smokers. A cork tip, however, is absolutely devoid of any flavor, is expensive to place upon a cigarette, and has a tendency of loosening. l
According to the present invention, the cigarette is provided with a tobacco tip. That is to say, instead of using a cork tip as heretofore employed, I provide the end of the cigarette to be held inthe mouth with a wrapping of leaf tobacco which serves the function of a. tip and also imparts a delightful flavor to thek cigarette. Such a tip will not adhere to the lips and has all the advantages incident tov cigar smoking. Furthermore, the tobacco tip may be efliciently secured in position and will not tend to loosen.
Features of the invention, other than those specified, will be apparent from the hereinafter detailed description andvclaims, when read in conjunction with the accompanying drawing.
'Ihe accompanying drawing illustrates different practical embodiments of the invention, but the constructions therein shown are to be understood as illustrative, only, and not as defining the limits of the invention.
Figure l is a side elevation of 'a cigarette embodying this invention. 40 Figure 2 is a central longitudinal section of a cigarette shown in Fig. l.
Figure 3 is a modied form of construction.
Referring to the drawings, l indicates the paper wrapper of the cigarette and 2 the t0- bacco filler commonly used in cigarettes. In the construction of Figs. l and 2, the wrapper extends for the full length of the cigarette and at that end thereof adapted to be held in the mouth, a tip 3 is provided which 50 tip is formed by wrapping about the end portion of the cigarette a leaf of tobacco and adhesively securing the same in place so that when the cigarette is held in the mouth, the lips engage with the tobacco leaf 3 and do not 55 touch the paper wrapping.
In the construction of F ig. 3, the wrapper la of paper extends for only a portion of the length of the cigarette and the tobacco leaf tip 32l is made somewhat longer, overlaps for 60 a short distance the contiguous end of the paper wrapper and serves to fill out the length of the cigarette to conventional size, so that when the cigarette is held between the lips the paper is in removed relation from the lips, so that the moisture from the mouth will not reach the paper wrapper and cause the disagreeable iavor sometimes found in these wrappers.
The cigarette of this invention is economical to manufacture and provides a solution of the problem of those smokers who enjoy the aroma of a cigarette but prefer the feel of tobacco against the lips and the absence of objectionable tastes of the paper wrapper.
The foregoing detailed description sets forth the invention in its preferred practical form, but the invention is to be understood as fully commensurate with the appended 8 claims.
Having thus fully described the invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
l. A cigarette comprising a core of tobacco extending uninterruptedly for the full length of the cigarette, a paper wrapper enclosing said core and extending from one end thereof for only a portion of the length of the cigarette, and a leaf tobacco tip extending from the other end of the cigarette and embracing the remainder of the core.
2. A cigarette comprising a core of tobacco extending uninterruptedly for the full length of the cigarette, a paper Wrapper enclosing seid core and extending from one end thereof for only a portion of the length of the cigarette, und a leaf tobacco tip extending from the other end of the Cigarette and embracing the remainder of the core, said tobacco Wrapper and paper Wrapper partially overlapping at their contiguous ends and adhesively Secured to one another.
In testimony whereof I have signed the foregoing specification.
HARRY H. HONIGfBAUM.
