Application led August 7, 1920. Serial` No. 127,815.
This invention relates to improvements in match receptacles and has reference to the type adapted to contain the ordinary household matches.
The primary object of this invention is to i prov'ide a device oithe above mentioned character adapted Vto convert the vordinary match container into a useful household Wall container, tor the reception of matches and other minute articles. y
A further object of this invention is to provide a device ot' the above4 mentioned character, adapted to be unfolded to facilitate the device being hung on the Wall of a room or building.
A still further object of this invention is to provide a container for matches, which niafy be sold to the consumer all ready to be un olded and attached to a wall in a home.
A still further object of this invention is to provide a device of the above mentioned type, which is neatin appearance and easy in operation, and construction.
WVith the above and other objects in view which will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in the novel form, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described, shown in the accompanying drawino' and claimed.
ln the drawing wherein like reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views,
Figure 1 is a vertical perspective view showing the front wall of the container;
Figure 2 is a vertical perspective View showing the rear wall of the container and the vertical slot formed therein;
Figure 3 is a vertical perspective view showing the box in its open and operative position with the flaps and ends in an open position; and
Figure 4 is a sectional view of the invention showing the manner in which the flaps are closed, and fastened together by a fastenin bolt.
. eferring more in detail to the accompanying drawing,there is illustrated a rectangular casing havinvr front and rear Walls 5, and side walls 6. A longitudinally extending slot is formed in the rear wall of the casing and designated by the numeral 5. One of the side walls 6 is provided with a longitudinally extending strip of sand paper or other abrasive material 7 adapted to impart .friction to the tip of the match for igniting the same.
A corresponding container of comparatively smaller size is slidably positioned 0r mounted within the outer casing and comprises the rear wall 8, and side walls 9 which carry the end flaps 10, and 11 respectively.
One end ot the inner slidable receptacle is closed by the corresponding flaps 10 and 11 being iolded upon themselves, and fastened together by means of adhesive `material such as glue. t
The opposite end of the inner container is adapted to be opened and closed at will and each of the oppositellaps 11, are provided with apertures 12, for the reception of a nut and bolt 13 which passes through the rear wall flap 10. An auxiliary closing fia 14' is t hingedly connected tothe rear Wall a 10, by the hinge strap 15, passing throng `an opening 16 therein, The bolt 13 also serves the purpose of holding the hinge strap 15, to the rear wall flap 10. An opening17 is provided in the hinged flap 14, adapted to receive the nut and bolt 13 when the parts are in their closed position, as shown in Figure 4.
Itwill be noted that the opposite iiaps 11 carried by the side walls 9` of the inner slidable container are adapted to be folded to overlap one another while the flap 10 hinged to the rear wall 8 of the rectangular container is folded over the flaps 10 and is fastened thereto by the nut and bolt 13 pass-` ing through the several flaps. When the parts are in their closed position as shown in Figure 4 of the drawing the liap 14 is hinged over the end flaps 11 and also receives the nut and bolt 13 for holding all of the flaps in their assembled position.
A nut 19 is fastened to the rear Wall of the slidable container 8 and passes through the slot 5", formed in the rear wall of the outer casing. A washer 20 is held between the lateral edges of the slot 5Il and the fastening nut 21, threaded on the other end of the machine screw 19 for holding the same in place. It will be noted, 'that the length of the slot 5, formed in the rear wall, of the outer casing extends fromA the lower end of the rear wall, to midway thereof thereby limiting the move ments of the inner container in respect to the outer container as shown in Figure 3.
For a consideration of the operation of the device, attention is first called to Figure 4. The aforementioned figure shows the device in its closed position such as Would be the position when the container and contents were ought from the storeor vender. After the container and contents are delivered to the hoine of the user, the bolt 13 is unscrevved from the nut which is threaded on the other end and the flaps l1 and l0 arev allowed to assulne the position shown in Figure 3. The upper hinged flap 14 is then moved into the saine plane as the flaps l to form a hanging support, as for a nail or pin passing through the opening 1'1", formed therein.
After the device has been hung on a Wall the outer casing isslid downwardly, which brings the bolt 19 passing through the rear Wall 8, ot the inner receptacle to the end'and extreme lilnit of the slot 5a, formed in the rear Wall 5 of the outer casing.
It is understood, that the parts and flaps of the inner container may be folded at any time, such as when it is desired to move the saine into other positions or for packing pur poses.
While there is herein shown and described the'preferred embodiment of the present invention, it is nevertheless to be understood that ininor changes may be made therein Without departing troni the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.
What is claimed as neu7 is zl. In a container of the type described, the combination Wit-h a rectangular casing open at each end and having a longitudinal slot formed in its rear Wall, of a box slidably positioned in the Casing, flaps on the rear and side Walls at one end of the box fastened t0- gether by adhesive material, hinged flaps securedto the opposite side Walls and rear Wall of the other end of the box, an auxiliary liap having a hinged strap connection with the rear Wall flap, a detachable bolt for holding the auxiliary flap hinge strap on the rear Wall flap, when in an open position and adapted to al longitudinal slot formed in its rear wall, of
a box slidably positioned in the rectangular casing, flaps hinged to the rear and side Walls at one end of the box and being fastened together, flaps hinged to the rear and side Walls at the other end of said box, an auxiliary lap hinged to the rear Wall flap and having an opening formed therein adapted to receive a Wall hook or the like, a detachable bolt for passing' through the rear Wall flap, side Wall flaps and auxiliary Hap for holding the saine in closed position, and a bolt fastened to the rear Wall of said box and passing through the longitudinal slot formed in the rear Wall of said rectangular casing adapted to liniit the relative movement of the box Within the casing. i
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
