I M. GARBELL CARD HOLDER Filed July 11, 1927 INVENTOR.
ATTORNEY-5'.
Patented Dec. 18, 192 8.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
MAX GARBELL, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, ASSIGNOR TO VICTOR ADDING MACHINE COM- PANY, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS,
A CORPORATION ILLINOIS.
CARD HOLDER.
Application filed m 11,
My invention relates to typewriters and it has particular relation to a typewriter accessory known as a card holder.
There are no means provided with the usual typewriter whereby a stilt piece of material may be properly held in position on the platen when being written upon. It is the purpose of my invention to provide a card holding element which is very inexpensive to manufacture but which, nevertheless, gives satisfactory service. In pursuance .of this object, I form a card holder from a sin gle stamped piece of materialin such manner that the material may be bent into shape and have rolls, or other paper holding means, secured to arms which device.
For a better understanding of my invention reference may be had to the accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a typewriter platen and paper table showing my improved card holder in operative position thereupon;
Fig. 2 is an elevational, sectional view of the structure shown in Fig. 1; and
Fig. 3 is an elevational, sectional view showing the manner in which my improved device may be adapted for use with a typewriter paper table of another form.
- As before indicated, I have shown my invention in operative position on a paper table 10 of a typewriter. This paper table extends forwardly in a gutter-like formation 11 under a platen 12. I have further shown a typewriter rule 13 and a ribbon holder and guide 14, it being observed from Fig. 2 that the rule 13 is secured to the forwardly extending portion 11 of the paper table. It will not be necessary to describe these parts in more detail.
My improved card-holder member comprises an integrally formed device having arms 15 and 16 extending forwardly from the rear portion thereof. The device as a whole is stamped from springy or resilient material whereby the same may be quickly attached to and detached from the paper table which it substantially embraces in itsoperative position.
Rollers 17- and 18, respectively, are positioned at the ends of arms 15 and 16 and bear against the surface of the platen 12 to hold a card, or any other relatively stiff member, in
are embodied in the 1927; Serial No. 204,826.
the same is being writpaper table so that when the device is snapped 5 into position the beaded portion closely embraces the edge of the paper table.
Referring to Fig. 3 it will be noted that the device illustrated therein is in all respects the same as that previously described with the exception that the beaded portion 19 is' formed to cooperate with a rolled edge 19 of the paper table 10. In this latter form, the graspable portion 20 is again developed in the extreme rear of the device so that the same may be easily detached from its operative position.
From the above it will be apparent to those skilled in the art that I have developed a novel form of card holder which, by'reason of the main portion thereof being formed integrally from resilient material, may be manufactured very cheaply and quickly. At the same time, the device may be quickly snapped into position on the paper table of a typewriter and function with satisfaction to ing thereof to'other forms of devices without departing from the spirit of the present development,- and therefore, I desire that my invention be limited only by the scope of the appended-claims and the prior art.
I claim:
1, .A card holder adapted to be quickly attached to and detached from a typewriter comprising an integrally formed member of sprmgy material adapted ,for detachable securing to the paper table: of a typewriter and having arms extendingforwardly of said table and into proximity to a platen, rollers on the ends of said arms bearing against the platen, and said member having a portion extending rearwardly from said arms and adapted to clamp over the rear of said table.
3. A card holder adapted to be quickly attached to and detached from a typewriter comprising an integrally formed member of springy material adapted for detachable securing to the paper tableof a typewriter and having arms extending forwardly of said table and into proximity to a platen, rollers on the ends of said forwardly extending arms, said rollers being resiliently held against the platen by said arms, a rearwardly extending portion adapted to releasably clamp over the rear edge of said paper table, and arms extending under said table to hold the member.
4. A card holder adapted to be quiclrly at tached' to and detached from .a typewriter comprising an integrally formed member of springy material adapted for detachable securing to the paper table of a. typewriter and comprising an integrally formed member of springy material adapted for detachable securing to the paper table of a typewriter and having arms extending forwardly of. said table and into proximity to a platen, rollers on theends of said forwardly extending arms, said rollers being resiliently held against the platen by said arms, a rearwardly extending portion adapted to releasably clamp over the rear edge of said paper table, said latter portion being headed to correspond to the shape of said rearedge toembrace closely the same, arms extending under said table to hold the member, and a graspable part formed on said member to permit easy manipulation thereof.
In witnesswhereof, I have hereunto subscribed my name.
MAX GARBELL.
