To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, CARL GABRIELSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Syracuse, county of Onondaga, State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Card-H0lders for TypeWVriting Machines, of which the fol-'o lowing is a specification.

This invention consists in a device attached to and forming part of a platen typewriting machine and adapted for holding cards, labels and other small sheets of paper securely on the platen.

The device comprises means for yieldingly gripping the forward or leading edge of the card or label so that when the platen is turned it will be drawn through the feed rollers and held smooth upon the face of the platen at the printing line. H

The invention will be described in connection with the accompanying drawing, in which Figirre l is a front view of the left end portion of a platen embodying the invention.

Referring to the drawing, A indicates a platen for a typewriting machine of the usual construction, having a wooden core 10 and a hard rubber covering 11. My invention is usually applied, as illustrated in the drawings, by cutting away a rectangular portion of the rubber covering and attaching the device directly to the wooden core.

As shown, the card holding device is formed from a rectangular piece of spring sheet metal which is cut away so as to form two attaching cars 12 and an intermediate le- .7

ver 13, the ears and lever portion being integral with a continuous forward margin 14: of the plate. The forward margin 14 has a plurality of tongues projecting from its edge and bent downward to form stops 15. The projecting portions 16 between the stops form grippers to hold or forward edge of a card or label on the platen.

The cars 12 are rigidly connected to the clamp the core of the platen by screws 17, being preferably raised from the core by intermediate Washers 18. The lever portion 13, which is broad and adapted to be pressed by the thumb or finger, is provided forming a fulcrum and this rib preferably rests on a plate 20 securely attached to the platen core so that it will not wear into the wood of the platen. As shown, the fulcrum plate 20 is provided with prongs 21 which can be readily driven into the core.

The parts are shown in normal position in Fig. 2, the gripper l6 resting in a slight notch or recess in the edge of the rubber covering and the free end of the lever 13 resting at a considerable distance from the core ofthe platen. On pressing the 'free end of the lever inward with the finger as shown in Fig. 3, the grippers will be thrown away from the rubber covering and the edge of a card or label C may be easily inserted under the grippers and againstthe stops 15. On releasing the lever the grippers will clamp the forward edge of the card against the platen, and on turning the platen the card will be fed in and brought properly to the writing line.

Having described my invention, What I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is: I v

'1. The combination with a typewriter platen having a recess in its cylindrical surface, of an integral spring sheet metal card holding devicelocated in the recess and comprising a continuous marginal portion having on one edge alternate card stops and grippers and projecting from its other edge two attaching ears and an intermediate lever portion separated from the ears, the extremities of the ears being attached to the platen and the lever being provided with a fulcrum which is independent of the ears.

2. A card holder for attachment to a typewriter platen comprising an integral s oring sheet metal plate having cars at its ends for attachment to the platen, an intermediate lever portion having a rib to serve as a fulcrum, and a continuous margin connecting the ears and the lever portion and serving card or label against the platen.
