sy PATENT` vOFFICE:
CARBON PACK HOLDER FOR MANIFOLDING TYPEWRITERS Joseph Carroll Doyle, Baltimore, Md., assignor to Kee Lox Manufacturing Company, N. Y., acorporation of New York Rochester,
y Application November 23, 1946, Serial No'. 711,875
s claims. (c1. 19t-12er 1 Y l This invention relates to a carbon pack holder for a manifolding typewriter of the type in which a series of sheets of carbon paper are each connected to an independent supporting bar of a movable carriage and interposed between continuous sheets of paper on which the typewritten whereby the carbon paper can be adjusted and renewed without disturbing or changing the posiwhich a'carbon pack is retained by exible means forming` part yof Vthe holdingv sheet and without the use of any metallic fastening devices, or other .parts projecting Ibeyond the edges of the carbon paper- Another purpose of the invention is to afford an improved construction in which the carbon pack is retained on the holding sheet by the engage-Y ment of the carbon pack and carbon paper with the holding sheet in a manner that insures accurate positioning of the carbon pack when it is l attached and prevents injury to the carbon paper.
tion of the holding sheet onl the supporting bar such that it can beV used successfully either with the fan-fold type of manifolding record paper sheets or with manifolding sheets that are notV connected at their side edges.
In structures such as heretofore proposed for using a flexibleholding sheet, the carbony pack has been attached to the holding sheet in various ways, as for instance by means of spring clips or` by means of portions of the carbon paper carrier extending beyond the edges oi the carbon paper and interlockingly engaging slotted portions of the holding sheet, but in all such structures, some part of the' fastening instrumentalities extend beyond the edges of the carbon paper so that when the latter is interleafed between manifolding sheets of the fan-fold type, the carbon paper cannot extend clear to the edges of the manifolding paper sheets, as a result of which the typewritten matter cannot extend entirely tothe edges of the manifolding sheets, and it is a particular purpose of the present invention to provide a flexible holding sheet with means for detachablysecuring a carbon pack in such a Way that the edges of the carbon paper coincide with the edges of the exible holding sheet so that when the carbon paper is inserted between manifolding sheets of the fan-fold type, the carbon paper extends clear to the edges of the manifolding paperand the typewritten matter can extend entirely across the manifolding sheets Without any space Vat the edges being Wasted.
A further purpose of the invention is to vafford a simple, practical, and 10W cost structure' with a flexible holding sheet thatrwil'l permit inserting and removing a carbon pack ,quickly and easily.
Anotherobject of the invention is toaiord a holding sheet of the character' mentioned in To these and other endsthe invention consists.
in the construction and arrangement of parts that will `appear clearly from the following description when read in conjunction with the accompanying drawings, the novel features being pointed out in the claims following the specica.-
tion.

ThisY inventionV is in the nature of an improvement on the structure shown inpmy applicationY Serial VNo.y 631,375, filed November 28,1945,
wherein the carbon paper is mounted on a stili carrier, the ends of which extend beyond the edges ofthe carbon paper for interlocking engagement with slotted portions of a holding sheet, which is open to the objection that the extended portions of the .carrier prevent the carbon paper fromv extending clear to the edges of manifolding sheets of the fan-fold type, and the present structure'avoids this objection by anarrangement that permits the carbon A paper carrier to be of the same width as the carbon paper without any portions on ther carrier-extending beyond the carbon paper land hence the edges of the carbon paper can be inserted between fan-fold manifolding sheets clear to the edges ofthe paper sheets, andA as a result the typewritten matter can extend completely from one edge of the paper sheets to the other edge thereof.VV
This is accomplished in the present structure holding sheet,.. the car.b on paperwbeing folded around and under 'ne of 'said retaining'strips'to f' hold the carbon pack against movement endwise 4 of the carbon sheet is threaded under the inner retaining strip 'I and then under the outer retaining strip 8. The carbon pack is then moved outwardly, folding the carbon paper around the inner edge of the inner retaining strip 1 and the outer edge of the carbon pack is inserted under, the;outer retainingstrip 8, theiree end of the Qcarbon .paperbeing 'pulled outwardly until it is stretched tightly around the inner edge of ef the holding sheet wniie the opposite edge effioitheinner retaining strip 1 with the inner porthe carbon pack is inserted under theotlier re taining strip which functions'to" hold the carb' pack against bodily movement away from 'tl`1e`" folding strip when in operativeposition..
In the structure shown, in whichlikereferenceil numerals refer to the same parts throughout.tli'` several views, the flexible holdingsheet includes@ a relatively thin connecting portion Iv of`a s'igl'" thickness of fabric such as the cloth materiali;
