UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ARTHUR KENNY, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF HIS RIGHT TOW. H. MILLER AND J. E. MILLER, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN THE MANUFACTURE OF BUTTON-GAITERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 169,271, dated October 26, 1875; application filed October 18, 1875.
To all whom it may concern Beit known that I, ARTHUR KENNY, of N ew York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented a certain new and useful lmprovementin Manufacture of Button- Gaiters; and I do hereby declare the following to be a-'ull, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use it, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form part of this specification, in which- Figure l is a .perspective view of a gaiter according to my improvement. Fig. 2 repre sents the patterns.
This invention lhas relation to an improvement in the manufacture of button-gaiters; and it consists of a pat-tern and gaiter embracing the following-described features:
The two quarters, vamp, and lower section of the button-Hap are all cut in one piece. The upper portion of the button-ldap is cut separately. In the gaiter the quarters are stitched together a't the h'eel, and the-upper part of the button-Hap is stitched to the lower and to the inside quarter. The buttonpiece is separate, and is stitched to the outside quarter.
The shoe, it will be seen, excepting the button-piece and upper portion of the button-ap, is in one piece, and is distinguishable from others of approximate pattern -in having no seam whatever dividing the quarters and vamp. I
In the drawings, Fig. 1, A designates the inside quarter; B, the vamp; C, the outside quarter; D, the lower part, andv E the upper part, of the button-Hap.
In Fig. 2 the top of the button-Hap and the button-piece are shown separately from the pattern that forms the other portion of the shoe.
The advantages of the improvement above described are, the great saving of stock and labor, and the production of well-fitting comfortable gaiters, of neat and attractive appearance, and with few seams to hurt the feet or impair the durability of the gaiter.
What I claim as new is- 1. As a new article of manufacture, the improved gaiter, having both quarters, vamp, and button-flap in one piece, and the upper part of button-Hap and the button-piece of separate pieces, stitched to the lower part of the button-flap and quarters, substantially as specified.
2. The pattern for a button-gaiter having both quarters, vamp, and part of button-ap in one piece, substantially as described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto 'set l'ny hand this 15th day of.
October, 1875.
ARTHUR.KENNY.
