UNITED STATES PATENT CEEICE.
JOHN MCKIBBEN, OF LIMA, OHIO.
IMPROVEMENT INl HALTERS AND BRIDLES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 168,841, dated October 19, 1875; application led December 26, 1874.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, JQHN MOKI'BBEN, of Lima, county of Allen and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Harness-Hardware, of which the following is a specification:
My invention relates to buckles for harness 5 and it consists in constructingl the buckle with a loop or loops for the bolt-piece7 and chinstrap, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
Figure 1 is a perspective View of a halter having my improved buckle. Fig. 2 shows front, side, and end views of my invention.
K represents the buckle, with` side bars A' B and cross-bar a, which has a pin for holding the strap in position. At one end of' the buckle there are two extensions, o, curved inwardly and ruiming obliquely to the cross-bar a, forming a loop, n, for the chin-strap. These extensions are further curved, as shown at d, so as to form another loop,`m, which shall he at about a right angle to the loop n and crossbar a. This second loop is to receive the bolt piece.
.chin-strap from falling to the bar a, and a bar, f, to prevent the bolt-piece from falling into the chin-strap loop.
It is obvious that only one of the extensions The buckle has the bar e to check the c need be curved as described, (the other being straight,) to form the loop n, without departing from the spirit of my iuventiomwhieh is to make a buckle that shall have two loops, the one at about a right angle to the other,in order that the chin-strap and the bolt-piece, which is perpendicular to the chin-strap, may lit neatly in position, and that one buckle may answer the purpose of two or more.
In Fig. l, at K, the buckle is shown with the bolt-piece in loop m and the chin-strap in loop Amwith their respective connections. The hitchin g-strap is fastened to the cross-bar a, as shown in Fig. l. h2 is the end bar of the buckle.
Having described myinvention, WhatIclaim 1s A fastening for halters consisting of the side bars A' B', cross-bars f e a, and end bar h2, and having the loop m at right angles to the plane of the frame, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention, I hereunto affix my signature this loth day of December, 1874.
