IMPROVEMENT IN HARNESS-SADDLESA Specification forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 1 67,544, dated September 7, 1875; application filed April 17, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it knownthat I, JAcoB F. KNoRR, of Orange, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented a certain new and useful improvement in Harness-Saddles, of which the following is a specification:
This invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which- Figure 1 represents a sectional side view. Fig. 2 is a face view of the frame. Fig. 3 is a transverse section of the saddle in the plane as m, Fig. 1.

This invention relatesto a harness-saddle in which a metal frame is combined with an iron jockey. The invention consists in the terret-burrs arranged in recesses in the metallic frame, to operate with the bars having openings for the passage of the shanks of. the terrets, and constructed to retain and hold the terret-burrs in place, as will be hereinafter more fully described.
In the drawing, the letter A designates the tree or frame of my saddle, which is, by preference, made of cast-iron or any other suitablerigid material. With this frame I have combined a jockey, B, composed of cast-iron, and made in two sections, each of which is retained in position by steady-pins a I). (See Figs. 1 and 2.) The frame A is provided on each side with a recess, 0, for the reception of the terret-burr (I, said recesses being of such a shape that they prevent the burrs from turning round in either direction when the terrets are screwed in or out. This object can beattained by providing shoulders against which the burrs bear, and which extend across the entire width of the frame, as shown in Fig. 2,
or said shoulders may be made in sections forming simple projections for the purpose of preventing the burrs from turning round. The burrs are retained in their recesses by bars 0, which may extend transversely across the frame, as shown in Fig. 3, or which may be made to extend in the direction of the length of the frame A. In the former case the frame is provided with sockets in its sides through which the locking-bars can be introduced. In
the latter case suitable sockets have to be provided in the body of the f ame. Said lockingbars are provided with holes to admit the shanks of the terrets G, and when the burrs, the locking-bars, and the sections of the jockeys have been adjusted in the required positions, the terrets are screwed in, and by their action all the parts are firmly united. The frontA is provided with recessesf, one on each side, for the back-band.
The object of making the jockeys in two sections is to enable me to cast the same with imitation-stitches on their faces, so that when the saddle is completed it presents a finished appearance, andto enable me to remove the jockeys, and to affix or change the terret-bnrrs.
The flap D and the pad E are worked upon the rigid portion of the tree or frame A, and the sections of the jockey are placed on the flaps, and secured by means of the tenets,
and thereby a harness-saddle is obtained in which the flaps and the pad are firmly secured to the frame, and. these parts are not liable to fall away or break down when the terret is removed.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The terret-burrs cl, arranged in recesses 0 formed in the metallic frame A, in combination with the bars 0, having openings for the passage-of the shanks of the terrets, and constructed to retain and hold the terret-bu'rrs in place, as set forth.
2. In a gig-saddle, metallic jockeys made in two detached sections, each section being provided with a pin and with a hole to tit corresponding holes and pins in the tree, substantially as described.
