Description

W. H. TAY L0 R.
Harness Pad Tree.
Patented August 12, 1873.
AM Ff/DTD'L ITHOGHAFHIC co. N. mvsa nmva's mac sss) HEB TATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM-H. TAYLOR, OF BALDWINSVILLE, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN HARNESS-PAD TREES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 141,835, dated August 12, 1873; application filed June 3, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM H. TAYLOR, of Baldwinsville, in the county of Onondaga, in the State of New York, have invented an Improvement in a Harness-Saddle and I do hereby declare the following to be a full and correct description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a perspective View of my invention. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section, and Fig. 3 is a transverse section of the end taken at the points a;
The object of my invention is to construct a coach-saddle pad without the ordinary yoke and loose plates, and hinging the'pads to a center-piece so as to adjust itself to the horses back; and consists in securing to the upper side of the pads a jockey-plate, inclosing, by a groove, the back-strap, the whole secured together by the terret and one or more screws. These jockey-plates are hinged each to a central yoke carrying the pad-hook'and crupperloop.
In the drawings, A A represent the jockeyplates, which are hinged to the central yoke B. O G are the terrets, and a a the pad-screws, which secure the jockey-plates, jockeys, and pads b I) together, by means of the socket-nuts e and f. y is the back-band, which is secured between the'jockey-plate and jockey by means of the terrets O G and one or more screws, a a, and is retained in place by means of a groove in the under side of the jockey-plate A, as seen in Fig. 3.
In the construction of the pads, the padbottoms may be dispensed with, and the edge of the pad stitched directly to the jockey, thus constructing the pad with less material.
The great advantage arising from my invention, beside the production of neat and easy harness-pad saddle that may be used with single or double harness, is, that harnessmakers may use any kind of harness-trimmings, and repair any part of the saddle without interfering with the remainder.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination of pads b b, constructed as described, with jockey-plates A A, grooved to receive the back-strap, and hinged to the yoke, substantially as set forth.
WILLIAM H. TAYLOR.
