Filed Sept. 12, 1927 Patented June 1928.,
BENJAMIN OSHMAN-AND DAVID OSHMAN, OF NEW YORK,.'N. Y.
qomnmnn BRUSH AND COMB.
Application filed September 12, 1927. 'serialnb. 218,936.
This invention relates -to a combined brush with combs, of the type wherein these two elements are utilized simultaneously and in cooperation for improved andetficient combing and brushing of the hair, and its principal object is to provide a simplitied, efficient, and improved article for this purpose.
Another ob ect is to provlde such article with improved means ror mounting the combs thereon and demounting them therefrom, to permit separate use of the combs when desired, and to permit separate, efficient. and convenient cleansing of the combs.
Another object is to provide such article with simplified, eflicient, and improved means for demounting the combs when in operativestate and plac ng them in the brush body in inoperative condition without projecting. V v I A further object is to provide such article with positive locking means for said combs when in operative or inoperative positions.
A. further, object is to provide such article i with an improved mirror device, which will permit separate use of the mirror, which will positively lock the mii'roif and wh ch will completely guard the mirror and at the same time permit use thereof without. requiring its removal. I
A further. object is to provide the brush member of such article with improved C011? figuration with relation to the combs where.- by an improved combined combing and brushing action will be derived.
Other objects and advantages will hereinafter appear.. I
In the accompanying drawings,
Fig. 1 is'a back plan view of the article, showing the combs in operative condition.
Fig. "2 is a view similar to Fig. .1, but
showing the combs in inoperative state.
3 s an end elevation of the article. 4: is a sectional side elevation of the article.
5 is a perspective view showing the locking details of the article.
The article 1 comprises the usual body 2, a handle 3, and a brush 4 set in said body. In each side .5 of said body is formed a channel 6 having a pair of tracks 7, 8. The combs 9 of this article are provided with guiding ledges 10 which are slidable in either of the tracks 7, 8, and when it is de s red to mount these combs in operative condition they are slid into the tracks 8, in the spri ng-bar.
manner shown at the lower side of Fig. 1, to i the position shown at the opposite side of the body 2, in which positions the combs may be both utilized for combined combing and brushing with the bIUSl14. Said brush is configurated so as to curve in the direction of the combs 9, as shown in Fig. 3, for producing a more efficient combined combing and brushing action of the article. When the combs 9 are not in use theymay be placed away. in inoperative state within 0 the bruslrbody 2, by withdrawing each of them out of the track 8 and inserting it into the channel 6 by sliding it into the track 7, in the manner shownin Fig. 2., Ina cavity 11,lextendingpartially within'the body 2 and parti ally within the handle 3, is located a locking device 12 for the combs 9.. Said device, Fig. 5, comprises a spring-bar 13, se-
cured in place by a screw 14, from which bar extends a cross-rod 15 carrying a series of locking pins 16, 17, and said rod and pins are continually pressed upwardly by the A pin .18 projects upwardly fromthecentre of rod 15 through the body 2 and its terminalis lodged within a finger indentation 18 in the back of the body 2. lVhcn the combs 9 areslid into their pro,- jecting operative positions in thetracks 8, as shown in Fig. 1, the pins 17 automatically enter holes 19 thereof and thereby'efiectively and positively lock thecombs in this position, and when the combs are slid into their inoperative state, shown in Fig. 2, the pins 16' automatically enter the holes 20 thereof and thereby similarly lock the combs in this state. Upon. pressing. downwardly of the terminal of pin 18in theindentation 18 the pins 16, 17 release the combs 9 for withdrawal of the latterfrom eithertheiropera tive orino'perative positions, or for with.- drawing eithercomb from either of said positions for separate use unconnected with the brush-body 2. t
In the body 2 and above the channels 6 is formed pocket 21 in which slides a mirror 22. whereby the latter may be either inserted when not in use or withdra'wnfor use unconnected with the brush-body. The back 23 of this brush-body is niadeof a transparent noncrackable material, such as celluloid. whereby this back not only acts as a guard for the mirror 22, when the latter 'is slid into the brush-body, but at the same 11 is located a locking device 24: for the mirror 22. Said device, Fig. 5,'comprises a spring-bar 25, secured in place by a screw 26, which bar carries a pin 27 that is thus continually pressed upwardly by the springbar, and an operating pin 2-8 projects upwardly from the bar 25 through the body .2 and its terminal is lodged within a finger indentation 29 in the back of the body 2. When the mirror 22 is slid into its pocket 21 in the body, as shown in Fig. 2, the pin 27 automatically enters a hole 30 thereof and thereby effectively and positively locks the mirror in this position. 'Upon pressing downwardly of the terminal of pin 28 in the indentation 29 the pin 27 releases the mirror 22 for withdrawal. of the latter for sepa rate use. i
vVariations may be resorted to within the scope of the invention, and portions of the improvements may be used without others.
Having thus described our invention, we claim:
1. A hairbrush having a body for the brush, said body having tracks in its sides. and combs adapted to slide longitudinally into and out'of said tracks and projectingoutwardly when in said tracks.
2. A hair brush having a body for the brush, said body having tracks in its sides, combs adapted to slide longitudinally into and out of'said tracks and projecting outw ardly when in said tracks, and means to lock said combs in place when in said tracks.
3. .A hair brush having a body. for the brush, said body having a track in its side,
, and a comb adapted to slidelongitudinally into and out of said track and projecting outwardly when in said track.

6. A hair brush having a body vfor the brush, said body having a track in its side, a comb adapted to slide longitudinally into and out of said track and projecting out-- wardly when in said track, locking means for said comblocated within saidbody having an operative portion at the exterior of the body, and said means being adapted to ly .into and out of said pockets, locking.
means for said combs located within said body having an operative portion at the exterior of the body. and said means being adapted to lock said combs in place when in said pockets.
9. A hair brush having a body for the brush, said body having tracks in its sides, combs adapted to slide longitudinally into and out of said tracks and projecting outwardly when in said tracks, said body hav- .ing tracked pockets, said combs adapted to slide longitudinally into and out of said pockets, locking means for said combs located within said body having an operative portion at the exterior of the body. and said means being adapted to lock said combs in place either when in said tracks or when in said pockets.
10. A hair brush having a body for the brush, said body having a pocket therewithin, a mirror adapted to slide into and out oi" said pocket, locking means for said mirror located within said body havingan opera- BENJAMIN OSHMAN. DAVID OSHMAN.
