- Application filed September This invention relates to a combined brush with combs, of the type wherein these two elements areutilized simultaneously and in cooperation for improved and eflicie'nt combing and brushing of the hair, and its principal object is to provide a simplified, eflicient, and improved article for this purpose.

Another object is to provide such article with improved means for mounting [the combs thereon and demounti'ng them therefrom, to' permit separate use of the combs when desired, and to permit separate, eli icie'nt, and convenient cleansing'of the combs.

Another object is to provide such article with simplified, efii'cient, and improved means for demounting the combs when in operative state and placing them in the brush in inoperative condition Without projecting.

A further object is to provide such article with positive locking means for said combs when in operative or inoperative positions.

A further object is top'rovi'de such article with'an improved mirror device, which will permit separate use of the mirror, and which will guard'the mirror and at the same time provide an additional mirror for use without requiring removal of said first mirror.

Other objects and advantages will hereinafter appear.

The locking and unlocking of the body- sections 5, 6, isv accomplished by means of a device 16 located in a cavity 17, extending partially between the two sections and partially within the handle 3'. Said device, I igs'. 4', 5, comprises a bolt 18 longitudinally slidable in a guide-way 19 under tension of a spring, 20, and an actuating pin 21 projecting from'the'bolts passing through a guide-slot 22 in the handle. In the body 2 and above the combs 8, Figs. 3, 6, is formed a pocket 26 in which slides a mirror 27, whereby the latter may be either inserted when not in use, or withdrawn for use unconnected with the brushbody. The back 28 of this brush-body is made of a non-crackable material, such as celluloid, which is mirrorized, whereby this back not-only acts as a guard for the mirror 27, when the latter'is slid into the brushbody, but at the same time aiiords mirroring utility without requiring withdrawing of the actual mirror 27 from the body. In. the cavity 17 is located a locking device for the mirror 27. Said device, Figs. 4, 5, comprises a spring-bar 30, secured in place by a screw 31, which bar carries a pin. 32 that is thus continually pressed upwardly by said springbar, and an operating pin 33 projects upwardly from the bar 30 through the bodysection 5 and its terminal is lodged within a finger indentation 34 in the back of the body 2. When the mirror 27 is slid into its pocket 26 in the body, the pin 32 auto matically enters a' hole 35 thereof and thereby effectively and positively locks the mirror in this position. Upon pressing downwardly oi the terminal of pin 33 in the indentation 3st the pin 32 releases the mirror 27 for withdrawal of the latter for separate use.

if desired the body-section 5 may be provided with a pair of pins 36, over which may he slipped a double-toothed comb 37, Fig. 7 the teeth of which would thus project outwardly in the manner shown in Figs. 2, 6, and this comb may be therefore utilized in place of the two combs 8. The double toothed comb may be also mounted in operative state upon the brush-body by means of providing it with a ridge 38, Fig. 8, arranged to slip into a channel 39, Fig. 9, with which the body-section 5 may be also provided.

In the modification shown in Figs. 10, 11, the hinge-slot 12 is lined with a slotted metal cylinder 40, and the comb S is provided with a thin portion 41 to permit it to slip through the slot 42 of cylinder .0 whereby the comb may be mounted in hinged state upon section 5 by slipping the portion 41 in slot 42, then pushing the comb so as to insert the pin 9 in its hole and ledge 10, and the pin 11 then incidentally falling in the cylinder 40 to substantially hinge the-comb 8 thereat.

Variations may be resorted to within the scope of the invention, and portions of the improvements may be used without others.

Having thus described our invention, we claim 1. Ahair brush having a body for the brush, said body comprising sections hinged to each other, means to lock and unlock said sections, a pair of combs hinged to one of said sections adapted to be swungto either projecting operative positions or to inoperative positions within said body, and said sections when locked maintaining said combs locked in either of said positions;

A hair brush having a body for the brush, said body comprising sections hinged to each other, means to lock and unlock said sections. a comb hinged to one of said sections adapted to be swung to either project ing operative position, or to inoperative position within said body, and said sections when locked maintaining said comb locked in either of said positions.

3. A hair brush having a body for the brush, said body comprising sections hinged to each other, means to lock and unlock said sections, a pair of combs hinged to one of said sections adapted to be swung to either projecting operative positions or to inoperative positions within said body, said sections when locked maintaining said combs locked in either of said positions, and means to remove said combs from their hinged state for use disconnected from said body.

5. A hair brush having a body for the brush, said body comprising sections hinged to each other, means to lock and unlock said sections, a pair of combs hinged to one of said sections adapted to be swung to either projecting operative positions or to inoperative positions within said body, said sections when lockedmaintaining said combs locked in either of said positions, and said locking means being located within said body and having an operative position at the exterior of the body.

6. A hair brush having a body for the brush, said body comprising sections hinged to each other, means to lock and unlock said sections, a comb hinged to one of said sections adapted to be swung to either projecting operative position, or to inoperative po sition Within said body, said sections when locked maintaining said comb locked in either of said positions, and said locking means being located within said body and having an operative portion at the exterior of the body.
