' TRUNK- DRAWER LOCK.
To all whom t mayconcern:
Be it known that I, vHENRY* LIKnY, of
Rochester',A in the ycounty of Monroe and lState'ofNew York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements'inTrunk Drawer'Locks; and I'd'o hereby declare the following to be a full,'clear, "andex'act description vofthe same,"reference being hadto the accon'ipanyingz drawings, forming apart of this speciication, and to the reference-v numerals marked thereon.v j A v l' Theinvention relates to travelers trunks and more particularly to` wardrobe' trunks in which., la series" of vertically "disposed v15 drawers'or trays are arranged in sthe body portion of Vthe "trunkgand ward-robe hanger supports are disposedlin its'hinge'dj cover portion, but the invention isladapted for use inV trunks'having drawer. or trays variously disposed therein.
'It yis obviously desirable-.to provide' means whereby one or moreof thefdraw'ers o r trays in one section of a wardrobe trunk lmay be securely locked closed when the wardrobe section is unlockedl and openedto give free access to the garments tl,1erein.f l This inventionhasforl its more special object toprovide simple, inexpensive and efcient means whereby oneof the drawers orV trays of the open trunkl mali,7 belocked'closed by 'thesame lock which fastens the c losed trunk cover. M
The inventionv4 also includes an auxiliary latch device whereby the 'flocking of "one drawer or' tray vassures the simultaneous lock-f ing of'one or more'adjacent drawers, or all ofthe drawers, said auxiliary locking device '-,troduced inthe hasp keyhole 418 for drawing being also adapted for convenient temporary disposal when not so use d,1wi thin the trunk ing of the hasn" 13 onits hinge pin 14C.'

` .The'numeral 1f-indicates' the 4dr'awerfor i tray-holding 'section' of. Vthe trunk and. 2 is its'wardrobe section which lis held by hinges `3 to the drawer-section 1. lIn the section 1 are shown four drawers 4,5, 6, 7 each'havas uitable handle 8 for opening and clos- '1in-giu Preferably to theifront'of one ofthev Yintermediate v drawers, the one' as shown, is fixed a catch comprising aface plate 9 `preferably carrying a cup 10v within vwhich vprojects an impressed .langeiporti'on 11 of the plate 9, surrounding an opening of thisplate into which may'V pass alock casinglQ fixed to ajhasp 13 pivoted at 14 to a plate l5 fastened to a side wall 16 of the trunk secf vtion l'. f'Two'springactuatedlatches'or lockl bolts 17, 17, held in the lock casing 12, are
adapted to be pressed `inwardly the plate yflaijige 11f and to pass'sa'id flange and then springoutwardly behind itasshownin Fig. 3, to lock' the hasn to theldrawer, and. thus `prevent opening of said'drawer except by an-'authorizedperson having a'lkcy to beinback the latches `17 Vto allow backward swingdrawer.; -but' when an adjacent drawer-'.5 is .to be locked simultaneously'withthe locking .iof'theidrawer 6,'4 the auxiliary latch device 20 lis employed, and tolaccommodatej it, azilling plate21 is interposed betweeny the catch face -`plate9 andthe face ofi-the drawer, asshown in Fig. 3. The yplates 9, 21, together-about equal the thickness of the auxiliary latch de- 1 vice @Owhich is preferablyA formed of a metal 'redde' been' Wire having heed 10Q? 22,.
around the margins of the aiiixed plates 9;
21, and one of said latch parts 24 then overl-ies thev face of* the drawer 5, so that when the lock hasp 13 of the Vopened `trunk is swung inwardly and overlies the plate 9 and a portion of the auxiliaryrlatch. loopy 22,: as-
shown in Figs. 1 and 3, and the liasp is engaged by its latches 17, acting behind' the plate flange 11, the drawer 6v and the other-drawer 5 in trent of which the locking device extends, will be simultaneously locked in the trunk drawer section'l.
. The catch 9, l0, applied to drawer 6, as shown in Figs. 1;, and 3, is operatively similar to the catch 9, 10, appliedk to the side wall 261 of; the trunk. wardrobe section 2, las shown in Figs. 1 and 2, whereby the same lock carrying haspV 13, hinged to thetrunk drawer section 1, is available for engaging and securing the catch of the closed trunk wardrobe section 2, or the catch onr the drawer 6 in the section 1 of they opened trunk as hereinabovev described. i
To `increase the scope and eectiveness ofk `ffiently shown in Figs. 1 and 4; of the drawf ings. 1n the event that it is desired to provide partitions between the drawers the perr torated projections 28 may be formed. on or secured to the edges of said partitions.L as will be understood. When the auxiliary locking device is in operative position its Vhook endsl 25 lie in the path of the drawersl 4 and 7, thusl causing all of the drawers to be held in closed position until such time as the auxiliary locking device is detached, which is accomplished by First unlockingthe hasp 13 from the catch 9, 10- on the drawer 6, and then swinging the has'p outwardly clear of the drawer, andu then disengaging the auxiliary loc-king device loop 22 from the drawerr plates. 9, 21, and slipping its opposite end hooks 25 from the perforations of the projections-2801i the drawer parting strips. 27. c
Genies; of this patent may heootaincd for Theauxil-V all o? said drawers.
lVhen the auxiliary lockingA device20 is not used for securing the closed trunkV drawer or drawers, as. abov`e:.describe'd,i lit may: be temporarily laid aside by engaging its opposite end hooks 25 over any suitable garmerrtfhanger support 29, arranged in the top of the trunk wardrobe section 2 and when so disposed the locking device 203 may itself serve as oney of said hangers, as suiiiciently illustrated by dotted lines in Fig. 1 of the drawings.
