' This invention relates to khasps forrtrunk y l locks, and has for its object to provide a strong and serviceabledevice of this descrip j tion, which operates to draw the lid and body 5l of the trunk together vinto locking relation member carried bythe'trunkfbody,
ThisV invention 'has nothing whateverfto do with any lock mechanism except that the 10 lower part of the hasp carrieslock engaging' vmembers, which, when the Vhasp is forcedV inf wardly, enter suitable openingsin the escutch-v eon plate secured to the trunk-body,-sothat y said members may be engaged by thegbolt of' ll5 asuitablelock. Y s Y f' l. l
. Therefore, no oonstructionfof lock illustrated or described;
a part of this application, j"

Similar numerals of yreference denote. like parts in the several figures of the drawings. Y 1 designates'the trunk lid, Q the trunk body, 3 anyA suitable plate member secured'to vthe lid, and l an escutcheon plate ftrunk body.
Theplate member 3 y block j-from the bottom ofwhichprojectsA upper end a block 'whichfis in alignment with the block 5,: and hasin its upper facea y Similar @Figure 2 butV showing the position of the hasp preparatoryk securedv to the a lug 6, while the plate 4i has "securedfto 'its successful operation ofthe inventionfnever#v i 1,0 listli hasp hlch 1s p'ivoted at its upperV hito "a downwardly eXtendinghook for fpur'j@ hasp'f'beiagfaf toxine@ membefihaving Sidesl end' fof thel haspj isI pivoted adraw 'bar 13, a pin 14'. passing-'through these' sidesandy the l drawba'r to eife'ctthis pivotal relatiom,y 1515 Eis@a@spring coiled=around the'xpin'ylf', one end of thespi'ing' bea against the'hasp while the'v other end bears Qagainststl 1ev Jdijaw bar', thehfnction of thisfspringvbeing to inory .-1`r1ally` thrst'this' "draw bar if y l l "EXtending inwardly A,from the outer 'i ends *enter `sltsf1-8`in the plate and be ini a position to be A'engagedf. byjlocling bolts inV the usual mannerfg; for

. Jhat the locking members 16 have been housed Y s y within the slots 18 the pivotal point afforded be impossible for the hasp to accidentally beposition noted at Figure 2 bolts may be operated in a lock construction so that they will enter these gates as shown in the instance of a bolt a entering one of the members 16 in `Figure 2, and thereby prevent the withdrawal of the hasp.
However, as was stated above, the locking ofthe hasp has nothing to do with the present invention, and the hasp may be equipped with any suitable appliance that will cooperate with any suitable locking mechanism. Y
The outer end of the hasp is formed into a finger lift 19 whereby, when the hasp is not locked, force may be exerted to `fopen Athe hasp. f
In the usual form of inventionsgof this description the hasp member has been vcarried Y by the escutcheon plate of thetrunk body,
and a pivoted draw link has been carried by the hasn, which engages over a hook member carried by the liol of the trunk, sothat'when the hasp is forced inwardly this hook member will cause a downward pull to be exerted against the hook to therebywdraw the lid and the trunk body together, kbutthe present censtruction i's deemed to be a stronger; one and to present a much neater appearance.
Whatiselaimed is.:-
In a trunk look having a block secured toV the tru-nk body and terminating at `its top i-n a downwardly extending,- open hook, .a plate member secured to .the l-id .of theetrunk, a
hasp having a base and inwardly-.extending side portions pivotally swung from :said member, a draw bar pivoted-at one end between ;the sidel portions :and extending t0-` ward said hookfand spring means carried by i Said has? for normally mgng Said draw bar 0utwa-rdly,-isaid bar, when the 'hasn is Vforced downwardly, being adapted `to engage saidV hook and draw the lid of the tru-nk .tightly against the trunk body.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature hereto. r Y i Y ALBERT J.
