Abstract

A hair cutting gauge for gauging the residual length of a person''s hair after cutting having first and second comb sections parallely disposed and displaced by the approximate desired residual length of the hair being cut. In operation, one set of comb teeth is placed in the hair at the scalp and the hair being cut is pulled through the other set of comb teeth from the first set thereby being displaced from the cutting by a distance from the scalp substantially equal to the distance between the two displaced combs. An adjustable embodiment is also included for varying the distance between the two combs and hence the length of the residual hair after cutting.

1 Claim, 2 Drawing Figures HAIR CUTTING GAUGE BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION The present invention relates to a hair cutting gauge and more particularly to a hair cutting gauge for determining the length of residual hair after cutting.
According to the invention, a hair cutting gauge is provided in which a pair of comb sections are displaced in a predetermined distance which represents substantially the desired residual length of the hair being cut. The preferred method of engaging the comb sections is in placing the teeth of one comb section into the hair being cut at the base of the hair, i.e., at the scalp and pulling the hair through the other comb section and cutting the hair on the outside surface of that comb. It has been found that this results in a very effective method of trimming hair evenly. A further embodiment contemplates an adjustable gauge by making the distance between'the two comb sections adjustable.
An object of the present invention is the provision of an improved hair cutting gauge.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a hair cutting gauge which is extremely convenient in use.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a hair cutting gauge that is inexpensive to manufacture.
Other objects and many of the attendant advantages of the present invention will be readily appreciated as the same becomes better understood by reference to the following detailed description when considered in connection with the accompanying drawing in which like reference numerals designate like parts throughout the figures thereof and wherein:
FIG. 1 is a perspective view of a preferred embodiment of the present invention; and
FIG. 2 is a top view of an adjustable embodiment of the present invention.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWING Referring to FIG. 1, a hair cutting gauge is shown generally at 11 having a handle portion 12 terminating in a comb spreading area 13 which has two comb sections 14 and 16 extending downward from each edge 17 and 18, respectively.
Referring to FIG. 2, an adjustable hair cutting gauge is shown generally at 21, having a cutaway handle portion 23 terminating in a comb spreading base 25 which carries comb portions (not shown) extending downwardly from edges 27 and 28. Latch members 29 and 31'are rotatably attached at 32 and 33, respectively, in proximity to edge portion 28 and having a plurality of recesses 34 for receiving pins 35 and 36. Comb spreading base 25 has a pair of apertures 37 separated by sections 38. Adjustment slots 39 enable the collapsing of base 25 for adjusting the distance between the comb sections.
OPERATION Referring back to FIG. 1, the entire gauge 11 can be plastic-molded in one piece for example. In operation, one of the comb sections 14 or 16 is placed against the scalp with the hair being cut running through the teeth. The end of the hair being cut is then pulled through the other comb section and that portion of hair cut off on the outside edge. The residual hair length will be approximately the distance between the two comb sec- .tions and hence the utilization of the gauge will result in a very even trimming of hair.
Referring to FIG. 2, the gauge is made adjustable by the selection of recesses 34 which operate with retaining pins 35 and 36. In this embodiment, the unit can be squeezed together vis a vis adjustment slots 39 and apertures 37 to the desired distance and the recesses in latch members 29 and 33 rotated into mating condition with retaining pins 35 and 36.
It should be understood, of course, that the foregoing disclosure relates to only a preferred embodiment of the invention and that it is intended to cover all changes and modifications of the example 'of the invention herein chosen for the purposes of the disclosure which do not constitute departures from the spirit and scope of the invention.
The invention claimed is:
1. A hair cutting gauge for gauging the residual 0 length of a persons hair after cutting comprising:
the desired residual length of the hair being cut.

Claims (1)

1. A hair cutting gauge for gauging the residual length of a person''s hair after cutting comprising: a first comb section; a second comb section; and adjustable coupling means coupled to said first and second comb sections and operable for coupling said first and second comb sections in parallel disposition and adjustably displaced by approximately the desired residual length of the hair being cut.
