This invention relates to hair brushes and combs and particularly to a novel application of these articles at the same time and in combination with each other.

It is an object of the present invention to provide an implement which embodies a pair of combs and a brush to be handled together.

It is another object of the invention to provide an implement of this kind which permits combing and brushing the hair successively without exchanging implements.

It is another object of the invention to provide an implement of this kind which permits combing and brushing the hair simultaneously.

It is a further object of the invention to use a fine or a coarse comb in the above manners selectively.

It is a further object of the invention to provide a brush which rotates on the head while brushing or one which may be stationary during this operation.

It is also an object of this invention to permit a quick exchange of one brush for another on the same implement.

Other objects and advantages of theinvention will be apparent from the description thereof taken in connection with the accompanying drawings in which- Figure 1 is a bottom plan of the brush-comb embodying my invention.

Referring to Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawings, [5 is the support for the brush 24 and for two combs It and I1. It consists of a curved plate preferably of pyroxylin or phenolic compound or the like from which they are formed integrally therewith and which extend tangentially outward from thecurved plate and form an angle therewith. At one end the plate I5 is formed into a handle l8 also integral with l5. On the concave side of plate [5 and on the longitudinal axis of the device two metallic spring clips 19 and 2B are fastened thereto, the clip l9 at the free end and the clip 20 at the handle end of I5 by rivets or other suitable means or may be moulded directly into the compound of plate l5.

Each clip extends perpendicular to the concave face of i5 and is bent reversely upon itself U- shape so that springs are formed by the free portions of the clips and each of these free portions is provided with an aperture as 2| in clip l9 in axial alinement with that of the other clip. In these apertures are lodged the free ends of the twisted wire stem 23 of a cylindrical brush 24. The brush may easily be inserted by bending one or both springs slightly backwards.

The apertures in spring clips 19 and 29 normally are circular and the twisted stem 23 with brush 24 will rotate therein when moved through the hair. When desired however one of the apertures are made of square shape as shown at 2| in Fig. 4 and one end of stem 23 is made of square cross section to fit closely into the square aperture 2| and to prevent rotation of the stem in the aperture and thereby hold brush 24 in a fixed position. The stem may however easily be removed from clip l9 by pressing the resilient fiat portion of the clip backward far enough to release the stem; The stem 23 with brush 24 thereon is then still rotatably held by the clip 22 at its other end in which it is mounted and can be turned about its axis until another cylinder quadrant forms the front of the brush.

The square end of the stem is then replaced into square aperture 2| and the brush has practically a new working surface. This may be repeated four times with each cylindrical brush before a new brush is required, whereby considerable economy is effected.

The illustrations of Figs. 6 to 11 show the various ways in which the brush-comb may be used on a human head 39. While these illustrations show one comb with coarse teeth l6 and one with fine teeth ll, the teeth of course may be of the same type. In Fig. 6 the coarse comb l6 alone is operative while fine comb l1 and the brush 20 are inoperative when the device is moved in the direction of the arrow. To use the fine comb on the same part of the head the device is used as shown in Fig. 9 and the brush 24 may be used simultaneously therewith to smooth the hair. Fig. '7 shows how the fine comb I6 is used on the right side of the head 30 when the device is moved in the direction of the arrow, and Fig. 8 shows how the brush alone is applied to either side of the head.

Fig. 10 illustrates the use of the coarse comb together with the brush on the right side of the head, and Fig. 11 illustrates how both combs and the brush can be used simultaneously.

These novel brush combs are of particular advantage to actors and actresses for quickly arranging a change of coiffure because many handlings of combs and brushes are eliminated by the invention and some of the operations can be performed simultaneously instead of successively.

While this device has been illustrated in its preferred forms it should be understood that changes in details may be made without departing 'from the principle of the invention and therefore I desire to be limited only by the state of the prior art and the appended claims.

I claim:

1. A hair brush comprising a curved support, a resilient bracket at each end of said support, a cylindrical brush removably journalled in said brackets by their resiliency and a handle forming a prolongation of said support and a comb formed on said support integrally therewith.

2. A device of the kind described inclu in a curved body portion, teeth at opposite edges of the body portion and a brush rotatably supported by said curved body portion and partially covered thereby.

3. A device of the kind described including a curved body portion having outwardly flaring edges, teeth at opposite edges of the body portion, a bracket at each end of the body portion, a brush rotatably mounted in said brackets and a handle fastened to the body portion, the ends of the bristles of the brush and of the teeth being in substantial alinement.

4. A device of the kind described including a cylindrical rotatable brush and a comb having its body portion partially encircling said brush and having teeth on opposite sides of the brush.

5. A device of the kind described including a curved body portion having outwardly flaring edges, teeth at opposite edges of the body portion, a spring clip at each end of the body portion, a brush rotatably and removably mounted in said clips, said brush being cylindrical in shape and partially enclosed by said curved body portion, a handle forming a prolongation of said curved body portion, said teeth being positioned on opposite sides of said brush, the ends of said teeth and of the bristles of said brush being in substantial alinement.

6. A device of the kind described comprising a support of plastic material having a concave surface, brackets including a resilient portion held at opposite ends of said concave surface, a cylindrical brush having a stem opposite ends of which are mounted in an aperture of said resilient portion for rotation therein and a pair of combs integral with said support extending longitudinally thereof on opposite sides of said brush.

'7. A device of the kind described comprising an elongated support, a cylindrical brush having axial pivots at its ends, a resilient support for each pivot on said support yielding longitudinally of said support to release the pivot therefrom and a comb along one edge of said support.
