Description

g- 24, 1948- G. MANIGLIA 2,447,953
HAIR BRUSHING DEVICE Filed Aug. 15, 1947 IN VEN TOR.
GIU5EPPE MAN/6L IA BY I Patented Aug. 24, 1948 UNITED sures rare N T. orelcn riarre-enpsrnno DEVICE Giiiseppe' Maniglia, New Yrs-ran? Y. Applicationrliugnst- 15, 194v, Serial No. 762,362 "1 Claims. (Cl. lea-e511)".
This-invention relates "to the hair, and simultaneously combing-ithe hair, cleaning' the scalp; clearing the surface of the hair, and pressing or smoothing the hair. Heretofore, the brushing .ofithe hair failed to clean the scalp, orv clear up. the surface of the hair, and left the hair with a rough appearance.
The principal object of the invention is to remedy the.aforesaid disadvantages, and to provide a .conveniently and economically manufacturable, low cost, conveniently and efiic'iently utilizable, simple, strong, durable, and improved device, which'while brushing the hair therewith will simultaneousl clean the scalp, clear up thesurface of the hair, and 'smoothout the-hair.
Another object i's'to provide an improved device for the aforesaid purposes having an operating handle for its brush head, which may be extended from either end of said head, for utilizing the device rightwardly or leftwardly.
Other objects and advantages will hereinafter appear.
In the accompanying drawings,
Fig. 1 is a bottom plan view of the hair brushing and hair conditioning device constituting the invention.
Fig. 2 is an end elevational view of the device shown in Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a front elevational view of a functional part of the device.
Fig. 4 is an end view of the part shown in Fig. 3.
Fig. 5 is a view showing another functional part of the device.
Fig. 6 is an end elevational view of the part shown in Fig. 5.
Fig. '7 is a top plan view of the device, and shown with some of its parts detached, for convenience of illustration.
The device I, Figs. 1, 2, includes a hair brush bristle body 2 carried by a head 3 having a lateral extension 4 equipped with a scabbard 5. Adjacent to the bristle body 2 is located a hair pressing plate 6, Figs. 5, 6, carried by a leaf spring 1 thereover, the ends 1a of which are secured to a framing 8 having a tongue 9 which is frictionally insertible into the scabbard 5, as shown in Fig. 2. All of these parts thus constitute a hair pressing and smoothing implement, which is detach-ably mounted on the head 3 and cooperable with the bristle body 2, the spring 1 thereof permitting tensional movement of the plate 6 upwardly, as shown by the dash and dot lines in Fig. 2.
To the opposite side of the brush head 3 are secured cleats In by screws II, in which cleats are held frictionally and detachably an impleadevice ifor brushing 2 ment 12 comprising -'a U-shaped plate 13, Figsi, 3, 4,'one member 14 ofwhich is located adjacentto the bristle body 2 and provided with a serrated. edge I 5 constituting a hairscrapen'and theother member constituting -':a comb-1 5 provided with: teeth I! having reducedtips lib On the top of I the-brushhead-3*is:' slidably mounted a handle 19, Fig. 7, guided 'by the up a wardly proj ecting ex-tensionfl and by ashoulder 20 integral with: the head 3,said-'handle' being provided with a central longi'tudinal 'slot 2! through which passes a thumb-screw 22 that threads into the head Spas 'shownin-Fig. 2. By this means thehandle I 9 may be-secured-Fby the userto-eX-tendeither rightwardly 'of the head 3 as seen in Fig, 17, or leftwardlyiassh'ownthe' dash and dot lines, permitting hair brushing and conditioning with the device I, either with the right hand or left hand, and either rightwardly or leftwardly with either hand, as may be most convenient to the user.
In utilizing the device I, it may be passed and. applied over the hair, rightwardly as seen in Fig.. 2, in a usual manner, in which motion the comb IE will perform its usual function with its teeth. I! while its teeth-tips l8 will clean the scalp of. any settled dandruff thereon. Simultaneously. the serrated edge 15 of its implement l2 will scrape off any dandruif lodging upon the surface of the hair, the brush 2 will perform its usual function, and the plate 6 will bear resiliently upon the brushed hair and effect a smoothing out thereof, thereby working out and completing a desired clean, smooth, and well appearing condition of the user's hair.
If desired, the device I may be utilized to perform its functions in above described manner, but without resort to the implement l2, which may for this purpose be entirely removed from the cleats l0, and it may be also similarly utilized without the hair smoothing plate 6, by removing the tongue 9 of the latter from the scabbard 5.
Variations may be resorted to within the scope of the invention, and portions of the improvements may be used without others.
Having thus described my invention, I claim:
1. The combination of a hair brush having a. head therefor, and said head carrying adjacent to said brush a member, having a serrated edge constituting a scraper for therewith cleaning the surface of the hair simultaneously with the brushing ofgthe hair.
2. Thecombination of a hair brush having a head therefor, said head carrying adjacent to sai'd'brush a member, having a series of teeth for games therewith combing the hair during brushing of the hair, and said teeth having reduced terminals for therewith cleaning the scalp simultaneously with the combing and brushing of the hair.
3. The combination of a hair brush having a head therefor, said head carrying adjacent to said brush a member, having a series of teeth for therewith combing the hair during brushing of the hair, said teeth having reduced terminals for therewith cleaning the scalp simultaneously with the combing and brushing of the hair, and said member having a serrated edge constituting a scraper for therewith cleaning the surface of the hair simultaneously with the brushing of the hair.
4. The combination of a hair brush having a head therefor, said head carrying adjacent to said brush a member, having a series of teeth for therewith combing the hair during the brushing of the hair, said teeth having reduced terminals for therewith cleaning the scalp simultaneously with the combing and brushing of the hair, said member having a serrated edge constituting a scraper for therewith cleaning the surface of the hair simultaneously With the brushing of the hair, and said member being attachable to and detachable from said head.
5. The combination of a hair brush having a head therefor, said head carrying a plate adjacent to said brush for therewith pressingly smoothing over the hair simultaneously with the brushing of the hair, a handle for said head being mounted thereon to slide longitudinally thereof for extending the handle beyond either end of said head, and means for securing the handle to the head in either of its said positions for utilizing the brush with said plate rightwardly and leftwardly.
6. The combination of a hair brush having a head therefor, said head carrying a device adja cent to said brush, said device having a scraper for therewith cleaning the surface of the hair simultaneously with the brushing of the hair, a handle for said head being mounted thereon to slide longitudinally thereof for extending the handle beyond either end of the head, and means for securing the handle to the head in either of its said positions, for utilizing the brush with said scraper rightwardly or leftwardly.
7. The combination of a hair brush having a head therefor, said head carrying a device adjacent to said brush, said device having a series of teeth for therewith combing the hair during the brushing of the hair, a handle for said head being mounted thereon to slide longitudinally thereof for extending the handle beyond either end of the head, and means for securing the handle to the head in either of its said positions, for utilizing the brush with said teeth rightwardly or leftwardly.
