UNITED STATES HERMAN EASTER HOWELL, OF SALISBURY, NORTH CAROLINA.
FILM CASE.
Application filed August 21, 1926. Serial No. 130,742.
This invention relates to a new and improved receptacle and more particularly to a receptacle which is adapted for use as a camera and film case. The main object of my invention is the provision of a receptacle of the above character wherein cameras of the folding type may be readily carried within a suitable case and additional room is provided for the carrying of a plurality of film cartridges for use in the camera.
Another object of my invention is the provision of a filmand camera carrying case whereby cameras of the folding type may be positioned within the case and protected against breakage while being carried about and a plurality of film cartridges may be placed within the case so that when the camera is carried about a supply of films may be readily carried with the same.
A further object of my invention is the provision of a receptacle or a case of the above character which is preferably con-' structed of leather and whereby a separate chamber may be provided for Within the receptacle or case by means of a single piece of leather formed L-shaped andhaving its edges sewed to the side walls of the body of the receptacle of the case thus providing a cheap and suflicient article of the character set forth.
WVith the above and other objects in view the invention consists in the novel features of construction, the combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more fully set forth, pointed out in the claim and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure l isva perspective View of a device constructed in accordance with my invention.
Figure 2 is a vertical sectional View on line 2-2 of Figure 1, and
Figure 3 is a transverse section on line 3-3 of Figure 2.
In carrying out my invention the body 1 of the receptacle is preferably rectangular in shape and as the same is formed of leath er the upper end flap is free from the side walls and has an extension 2 which extends down over the front wall of the case and attached thereto by means of a fastener 3.
Arranged within the case 1 is an L-shaped partition 4, the longer arm of which is arranged substantially mid-way between the front and back walls of the case and has securing flanges 5 along the edges thereof which are secured to the side walls of the case. The shorter arm of the partition 4: is provided at opposite edges with securing flaps 6 which are also secured to the side walls. Attached to the upper end of the longer arm of the partition 4 is a flap 7 which extends over and is detachably con nected as at 8 to the front wall of the cas ing, said front wall terminating short of the upper end of the case so that the end flap 7 will be readily connected thereto.
It will be noted that by positioning the L-shaped partition 4 within the body 1 a substantially L-shaped chamber 9 is provided which is adapted to receive film cartridges for use in a camera while a pocket or compartment 10 is also provided for re ceiving a camera. In order that the camera or kodak within the pocket 10 will be yieldably supported, a flexible strip 11 is positioned within the end of the pocket 10 with its ends connected to the front wall of the case and to the partition as shown. Between the strip 11 and the bottom of the pocket is a padding 12 to protect the camera against shock or jar.
The case is provided with a carrying strap 13, whose ends are attached by fastening means 14.
l/Vhile I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of my invention it will be understood that various changes and alterations may be made for carrying out my invention in practice without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the appended claim.
Having described the invention what is claimed is A device of the character described comprising a case, a closure flap therefor, a substantially L-shaped partition arranged in said case, flanges formed 011 the edges of said partition and being fixed to the side walls of the case, said L-shaped partition having a. portion spaced from the front and rear walls of the case and its remaining por tion spaced from the bottom of the case to provide a film compartment and a camera pocket, and said pocket having a closure flap at one end and being 'detachably fixed to the front wall of said case.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature. 7
HERMAN EASTER HOWELL.
