To all @07mm t may concern -e it known that I, ALFRED IIJELM, a cltlzen of the United States, resident of Wrestby, county of Sheridan, State of Montana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Duplex Pockets, of which the following is a specification. Y

The object of my invention is to provide a means forclosing the mouth of a pocket which will be simple and inexpensive and easily applied to the pocket and will dispense with all spring plates or other metallic parts frequently used in pockets of this kind.

A further object is to provide aA pocket adapted for garments generally and particularly applicable to the bib or apron portion of overalls.

Other objects of the invention will appear from the following detailed description.

rl`he invention consists generally in various constructions and combinations, all as hereinafter described and particularly pointed ont in the claims.

In the drawing, 2 represents the wall of the garment on which the pocket is to be mounted. 3 is the front wall of the pocket, stitched at the bottom 4 and at the sides 5 to the wall of the garment 2, an opening 6 being left at the top to form the mouth of the pocket. 7 is a flap, preferably folded to form a double thickness to obtain the desired degree of stiffness, stitched at 8 to the inner face of the pocket 3 and extending across the pocket below the mouth thereof. The upper edge of this flap is free and may swing back and forth'on the stitched portion 8. 9 is a flap, secured to the garment wall 2 at l0 and depending within the open mouth of the pocket and having its lower edge lapping by theupper edge of the iap 7 and for the purpose of holding these edges in their proper lapping position'I prefer to stitch the lower edge of the flap 9, as indicated at l1, to the ends of the flap 7 so that when these flaps are separated the lower edgeof the flap 9 will always have a tendency to slip in between the pocket 3 and the upper edge of the Iiap 7. When an artic-le is to be inserted in the pocket, the flap 9 is lifted to -allow the insertion of the article between `the flaps and between the flap 7 and the wall 2 into pocket l2 beneath.

In Fig. 2 I have indicated coins 13 in the bottom of this pocket. Now, assuming that the parts are in the position shown in Fig. 2, if the apron or bib of the overall be dropped 'down so that when the pocket is inverted, as indicated in Fig. 4, the coins, watch, lrnife or other article which may be in the bottom ofthe pocket will immediately drop by gravity and the mouth of the pocket, being closed by the lapping flaps 7 and 9, the articles will drop into the secondary or auxiliary pocket 14: provided between the flap 9 and the garment wall 2 and will thereby be prevent-ed from dropping out of the pocket and kbeing lost. As soon as the pocket has been returned to its proper position, the articles contained in the auxiliary pocket ll-v will drop back by gravity into the main pocket 12 where they can be easily reached by inserting the hand between the flaps 7 and 9. With this arrangement of the flaps I dispense entirely with all spring Yplates or any metallic parts which add to the expense of manufacture of the pocket without in any way limiting the scope of the eld in which the pocket may be used.`

I claim as my invention:

l. The combination, with a garment wall, of a pocket wall secured thereto and having an opening forming the mouth of the pocket` flexible flaps attached respectively to the pocket wall and the garment in said mouth and having lapping edges and means securing said lapping edges together only at the opposite sides of the pocket to hold the free central portion of the garment flap in its working position between the pocket wall and the pocket flap.
