Description

Dec. 31, 1946. R. M. PE RY CARTRIDGE CARRIER Filed Jan. 14, 1944 Faberf/Z Pa Patented Dec. 31,1946
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE Application January 14, 1944, Serial No. 518,271
1 Claim. 1
This invention relates to a cartridge pouch and the present application constitutes a continuation in part of my copending application filed May 6, 1942, Serial No. 441,977, now Patent No. 2,346,185.
It is one object of the invention to provide a pouch which is adapted to be mounted upon a belt worn about a persons waist, the pouch being slidable along the belt to a convenient position for removal of cartridges therefrom and of such formation that cartridges may be very easily removed when needed.
Another object of the invention is to so form the pouch that it has upper and lower compartments for receiving cartridges, the construction of the pouch and the arrangement of its belt-engaging member being such that either compartment may be disposed uppermost when applying the pouch to a belt.
Another object of the invention is to provide the pouch with upper and lower compartments defined by a partition extending diagonally between upper and lower ends thereof and normally closed at their open ends by flaps formed integral with the rear wall of the pouch.
Another object of the invention is to provide a pouch wherein the diagonally extending partition dividing it into upper and lower compartments is formed integral with the front wall of the pouch, thus reducing the cost and simplifying the construction.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, wherein:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the improved pouch.
Figure 2 is a sectional view taken transversely through the pouch on the line 22 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a sectional view taken vertically through the pouch.
Figure 4 is a sectional view taken vertically through a pouch of a modified formation.
This improved pouch is used for carrying a supply of cartridges for a rifle, pistol, or similar firearm and will be of such dimensions that the cartridges may be disposed horizontally in the pouch and rest one upon another therein. The main body or rear wall I of the pouch is formed of leather or other suitable material and has side extensions 2 which are of less length than the blank and folded forwardly in front of the rear wall. The end portions of the blank are of a length adapting them to be folded forwardly and form flaps 3 for closing open ends of the pouch. The front wall 4 is also formed of leather or the like and of the same length as the rear wall and 2 its side extensions 2. This front wall has side portions 5 folded rearwardly and inwardly and sewed to marginal portions of the flaps or extensions 2 of the rear wall and, together therewith, forming side walls 6 having inturned seams l. A partition 8 extends vertically through the pouch to form pockets or compartments 8a and 8b and has its lower end formed integral with the front wall, the upper end of the partition being sewed to the rear wall at its junction with the'upper flap by lines of stitching 9. The side edges of the partition are sewed into the seams 1 as shown in Figures 2 and 3.
When the pouch is filled with cartridges they are passed into the two compartments through open ends thereof and the flaps 3 then ciesedand secured by the companion snap fastener members l0 and H. A strip l2 of leather extends vertically at the back of the pouch with its ends sewed against the rear wall by the stitching 9 across its top and by stitching l3 across its lower end. Referring to Figure 3 of the drawings, it will be seen that when the pouch is suspended in upright position from a belt and filled with cartridges, the lower flap may be released and all of the cartridges in the lower compartment permitted to drop into a persons hand, or, if only one cartridge is to be used at a time, the upper flap may be released and the cartridges individually removed from the upper compartment. Of course, a single cartridge may be permitted to drop from the lower compartment and the lower flap refastened, if desired. While the pouch is preferably applied to the belt in the position shown in Figure 3, with the integrally united end of the partition lowermost, it will be understood that the pouch may be reversed.
In Figure 4 there has been shown a modified construction wherein the partition I4 is shorter than the partition 8 and formed from a separate sheet of material its upper end being sewed to the rear wall and its lower end being sewed to the front wall. The pockets or compartments l5 and I6 taper toward their closed ends but are shorter than the compartments 8a and 81).
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is: I
A cartridge container comprising a pouch having a rear wall and a front Wall, the rear wall being formed from a sheet of material of greater length than the front wall with its end portions extending beyond upper and lower ends of the front wall and forming closure flaps adapted to be folded against the outer face of the front wall and releasably secured in closed position, the rear wall having extensions at opposite sides corresponding in length to the front wall, said side extensions and opposite side edge portions of the front wall being folded inwardly toward each other and sewed together to form side Walls having inturned seams, and a partition extending longitudinally in said pouch with its side edge portions sewed into seams of the side Walls, said partition having one end formed integral with the front Wall and its other end sewed against the inner face of the rear wall and dividing the pouch into pockets, the front pocket being open at its upper end and the rear pocket open at its lower end.
