SASH-GOBD HOLDER AND COJ'il'NECTER.

To renew a sash cord in a window frame, it is necessary to remove the inside stop strip, the parting strip, and also the upper and lower sashes. In fact, the window construction is practically disassembled to gain access to the sash cord for the purpose of. properly renewing the same. This task is not only tedious, but it consumes substantial time and labor, not only in disassembling the parts, but replacing them.

With the above in view it is the purpose of the present invention to avoid these difiiculties, and in accomplishing such a result it is the aim to provide an improved holder and connector for one end of the sash cord to the sash, there being no necessity whatever for removing the stop and parting strips or the sashes.

Another purpose is to provide a removable strip at the lower end of each side rail of the window frame proper, to gain access to the weights, whereby the end of a sash cord may be connected ordisconnected to and from the weight. y

Still another purpose is to provide a connecter and holder mounted upon the face of one of the side rails of the sash, the removal of a cover plate permitting access to a slide and the knotted end of the sash cord, so that the sash cord may be disconnected or connected, as is shown in the drawings. 7

It isto be understood that the particulars herein given are in no way limitive and that while still keeping within the scope of the invention, any desired modifications of detail and desired proportions may be made in the apparatus according to circumstances.

The invention comprises further features and the combination of parts. as will behereinafter set forth, shown in the drawings, and claimed. 7

In the drawings Figure 1 is a view in elevation of a window showing two sashes, and illustrating the connecter or holder for the sash cord as applied in accordance with the invention, said view also disclosing the removable strip at the base of the side rail of the frame.

Figure 2 is an enlarged detail view in elevation of a portion of one of the sashes (which is partly in section) with the. connecter or holder countersunk in the face of the sash.

Figure 3 is a sectional view on line 3--3 of Figure 2.,

Referring to the drawings, 1 designates a window frame of conventional construction, and the lower inside wall of each side rail of the frame has two removable strips 2 and 3. The strip 2 has a beveled end 4 to engage with a bevel 5,'there being a metal vplated for holding the stripQ in position. The

metal plate 6 is secured in place by screws 7 The strip 3 has a beveled end 8, which engages a bevel 9, there being a screw 10 for holding the strip 3 in position. In fact, the

screw 10 passes through the bevel-faces and into the side rail of the frame. I The removal of these strips 2 and 3 permits access to the interior of the side stile of the window frame, for the purpose of attaching thesash cord 11 to a sash weight 12. Obviously, the two strips 2 and 3 may be removed, the'sash weight lifted through the opening from which the strips 2 and 3 are removed, and then the sash cord may be pulled sufficiently ,to attach the same to the weight in the usual manner. The weight is then restored tothe interior ofthe stile, and the sash cord 11 is then conveyed upwardlyv over theusual pulleys at the top of the frame. The sash cord beyond the pulley is conveyed downwradly through the groove 18 in the side rail of the sash, and then through a lateral passage 14 in the rail.

Each rail of the sash upon its inner face has a depression 15, in which the metal holder or boxing 16 is countersunk. The main portion of the holder or boxing is U-shaped,

as shown in Figure l. In other words, the main body of the holder or connecter come prises one side wall 17 and two end walls18, there being ears 19 integral with the end walls and countersunk in the face of the side rail of the sash for the reception of securing means to hold the boxing in the depression,

The former is of EL size suflicient to receive theend portion of the sash cord after protriiding' through the passage 14.
