UNITED STATES PATENT NQEEICE.
CHARLES E. JACKSON, OE MIDDLETOWN, CONNECTICUT.
IMPRQVEMENT lN SNAP-HQOKS.
Speciticatonrforming part of Letters Patent No. 165,333, dated July 6,1875; application led March 19, 1875.'
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES E. JACKSON, ot` Middletown, in the county of Middlesex and State of Connecticut, have invented a new Snap-Hook; and I do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with the ac companying drawings and the letters of reference marked thereon, to be a full, clear, and exact description of the saine, and which said drawings constitute part ot' this specification, and represent, in
Figure 1, perspective view 5 Fig. 2, sectional side view.
This invention relates to an improvement in what are known as snap-hooks,7 the object Ot` the invention being to combine with such a hook a device for securing the strap to the hook without perforatin g the strap or requirin gother mechanical means than that afforded by the peculiar construction of the attachment; and it consists in a rectangular frame made a permanent part of the hook, having two transverse bars across said frame, by which the end of the strap is made to engage the said frame by the friction ot' the strap upon itself.
A iS the base of the hook, and B the ton gue.V
These may be of any of the known constructions. To the base a rectangular traine, O C,
is attached, or made a permanent part thereof'. Transversely across this frame are two bars, a and Z, the surface of the one, d, slightly below the plane of the frame, as seen in Fig. 2, and its edge preferably serrated or notched, as-seen in Fig. 1. This completes the construction. y
The strap D is attached by passing the end below the outer bar e of the frame over the bar d down around the bar a, returning over the bar d, as clearly seen in Fig. 2. This brings two surfaces of the strap together over the bar d, Creating sufficient friction between the said two surfaces to prevent the disengagement ot' the Strap.
I do not broadly claim the combination of a buckle with the snap-hook, as such I am aware is not new 5 but I do cla-im as my invention- The combination of the buckle-frame C, cross-bars a, d, and e, and the body of the snap-hook A, all cast in one and the saine piece, and the tongue B, substantially as and for the purpose described.
CHARLES E. JAGKSON.
