T0015 BOX.
-Appuczan ma Augm a'z, 1928. sum no. 131,988.
This invention relates to a tool box, the general object of the invention being to provide ai lurality of trays in the box,"with means or adjusting the trays by the raising of the lid of the box to a position where the contents of all the trays will be accessible, the trays moving to a position where the lid can' be closed to cover them, upon the closing of the lid.
I Another object of the invention is to provide .means for moving one of the trays outwardly beyond the front of the box so that articles in the lower part of the box will be accessible. c
vThis invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawin'gs and specifically pointed out in the appended claim.
In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had 'to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters den'ote like or corresponding prts throughout the several views, and in w 'ch Fi e 1 is'a front view of thebox in close position. c
Fi 2 is a perspective view with the box m open position.
Figure 3 is a transverse sectional view similar to Figure 4 but shows the box in open position.
Figure 4 is, a section on line 4-4 of Figure 1 with parts broken away.
Figure 5 is a section on line 5-5 of Figure 3.
Figure 6 is a sectional view on line 6-6 of Figure 3.
Figure? is a section on line 7-7 of Figure. 2.
Figure 8 isa section on line 8-8 of Figure 5.
Figure 9 is a section on line 9-9 of Figure 3.
In these views, 10 indicates the body of the box and 11 indicates the lid thereof which is rovided with a flan e 12 at its rear whic is' connected by the es 13 to a. fla e 14 at the rear of the bo y. The front of the box is cut away, as at 15, and it is provided with tubular flanges 16 at the top of its end parts, the flanges being of square Shape in'cros's section. The lid is provided with end flanges 17 for enclosing the flanges 16. Short track forming strips 18 extend hrizontally from the rear of the box for slidingly su porting. a tray 19 which is provided- Wit the angle pieces 20 on its bottom which'engage the inner edges of the strips 18 to prevent endwise movement of the tray. Angle pieces 21 extend from the front to the rear of the 'box ad'acent each end thereof with their lower nges flush w1th thevupper edge of the front of the box, these stri s forming tracks for a front tray 22 which as angle pieces 23 secured to the lower corners of its ends and these pieces rest upon the track formng pieces 21.
loop 24, formed of a metal strip fastened to the mner end of each piece 23, encircles the pieces 2 1 and 23 so .as to slidingly connect each plece 23 with the track piece 21. Each loop 24 is provided with a projection 25 which engages the slotted upper end of a lever 26 which is pivoted at its lower end to each end of the box. When the tray 22' is in its innermost position, its front wall will close the opening formed by the cutaway portion 15 and said front wall -is provided with the end extensions 27 for c1os-. ing the member 16.
` A second lever 28 is pivoted intermediate its endsl to each end of the box and the lower end o f each lever 28 is connected with the lever 26 by a link 29. A. lever 30 is pivoted at one of its ends to a braeket 31 at each end of the lid, at the rear thereof and the front end of each lever 30 is pivoted to the upper end of each lever 28. Thus when the lid is opened, the levers 28 will be rocked through means of the levers 30, and this movement will be communicated to the levers 26 by the links 29 so that said levers 26 will be tilted forwardly so as to move the tra 22 outwardly, as shown in Figures 2 an 3, b the forked ends being connected with the oops 24, through means of the projections 25. As the lid is lowered, the parts will be moved in an opposite direction so that the tray 22 will be moved inwardly until its front engages the front of the box. In this position, the front of the lid will overlap'the top part of 'the front of the tray so that the parts will be completely closed. The box can be locked through means of the hasp' 32 on the lid and the sta le 33 on the tray.
tray 34 is hinged to the rear of the lid by the hinges 35 and a'tra 36 is hinged to the lid by the hinges 37. he' two trays are connected together by the links 38 which 80 With this box, the entire interior space d has its lower bent end passing through slot .40 formed in each flange 16 and this end of each bar 39 is pivotally connectedwiththeflangebyapinfl. Thus ss the lid is moved to open position, the bars 39 will move the tray 36 to open position and as this tra is connected with the tray 34 by the 38, this tray 34 will also be moved to open position. As the lid is closed, the bars 39 will cause the trays 36 and 34 to swing back into the lid into closed position, as shown in Figure 4.
I prefer to make the tray 34 with its front open and its bottom provided with an upwardly and outwardly extending extension42sothatthistraycanbeusedasa saw rack.
From the foregoing it will be seen that I have provided a tooi box whereby all the trays will be moved to a position by the opening of the lid, where their contents are readily aocefible with a s ace between the trays 19 and 22 so that t e bottom of the box is accessible. When desired, the tray 19 can be moved forwardly, so that the tray 34 will not interfere with the removal of objects from said tray 19.
is made use of `and the various tools or other objects can be taken from the difi'erent compartments or placed therein without removing other articles as is the case where the tools are all piled together in one comparhnent or in compartments placed one upon the other.
It is thought from the foregoing descrip-Y tion that the advanta and novel features of. m invention Will e readily apparent.
I esire it to be understood that I may make changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall Within the scope of the appended claim.
What I claim is A box of the class described com rising a body, a lid hinged thereto, a tray s 'dably mounted in the front of the box, means actuated by the opening of the lid for moving the tray outwardly, a second tray in the body, a track for slidably supporting the second tray, a plair of trays hlnged in the lid, links ivot in the li for causing the trays to move in unison and a rod pivotall1 connected with one of said. trays 1n the hd and with a part of the body for swinging the trays in, the lid to open position when the lid is moved to open position.
In testimony whereof I aflix m signature.
o ESTELL M. SON.
