PATET oFFies.
SAMUEL B. MoHENRY, OF BLOOMSBURG, PENNSYLVANIA.
BROOM.
Application filed August 17, 1923, Serial No. 657,964. Renewed September 21, 1927.
This invention relates to improvements in brooms, the general object of the invention being to provide novel means of connecting the bristles with the handle so that new bristles can be easily attached to the handle when the old ones have become worn.
Another object of the invention is to provide simple means for connecting the bristle carrying part with the handle.
A further object of the invention is to provide means for thinly binding the bristles together, in looped form, so that they will be held in a compact mass.
This invention also consists in certain other; features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illus trated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claim.
In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which: (a
Figure l is an elevation of the invention.
Figure 2 is a sectional view through the same.
in the form shown in Figures 1 and 2, the holding member l is extended to form a handle l and the band 9 is located high so as to engage the shoulders of the broom head and the upper portions of the loops of the member l. The arrangement of the bands in the forms shown in the figures will prevent turning movement of the broom head on the handle.
In all the forms where a wooden handle is used I prefer to groove the handles to re ceive the limbs of the U-shaped portion of the connecting device.
From the foregoing it will be seen that I have provided simple means for fastening the bristles to the handle so that the broom or brush can be manufactured to sell at low cost and the connecting means are so formed that new bristles can be easily and quickly placed in position after the old ones have become worn and removed.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent.
I desire it to be understood that I may make changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claim.
hat I claim is i A broom of the class described, comprising a broom head formed of a body of straw folded upon itself, a band passing around the bight portion, a handle having a looped lower end which engages the bight portion of the broom head, a band passing around the folded part of the head, and pins passing through the band, the folded part of the head, through the loops of the handle and through the first band.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
SAMUEL B. Mel-HENRY.
