SANITARY APPLIANCE.
To all whom it may concern;
Be it known that I, ANTON O TROIANO, a citizen of the United States, residing in Yonkers, Westchester county, State of New York, h v i ent d e tain neW an useful Improvements in Sanitary Appliances, of which the following is a specification, refer nee ein bad to the a ngs fo m g a Par th reof- My invention relates to sanitary devices and particularly to those in use in the ordin ry bar er shop nd a es ing P r- Withi t e pa t decade movemen to lessen the dangers of contracting contagious d ea and afil ction has gro n, aided y Sta e and un eipa a s c l ing r the liberal use of antiseptics and the use of sep: arate alticles for each individual. In the barber shop and hair dressing parlor to which my invention is directed, individual shaving cups, brushes and towels have come into such common use that the exception is an extreme rarity. In the treatment of the hair, however, the old fashioned custom of employing the same apron for several customers is still in use. The apron is wrapped around the shoulders and body of the individual with the upper edge thereof tucked in and about the neck of the person. The clippings are thereby prevented from fall ing down the neck of the wearer or, upon his clothing. It is obvious that that portion of the apron that is folded about the neck of the individual, and in contact therewith will become infected with such diseases as the individual is afflicted, and if wrapped dividual aprons but in that event the cost of I laundrying a great number of these during the course of a week would add a considerable item to the cost of operating the establishment.
My invention has for its object to provide a'collar or neck piece to be folded closely around the neck of the individual that will be so inexpensive that it can be thrown away after use.
My invention also has for its object simplicity and economy of manufacture.
My invention has other objects that will appear more fully hereinafter.
I shall now describe my invention as illustrated in the accompanying drawings and Specification of Letters Patent. I
Patented June 27, 1 516,
will thereafter point out my invention in la ms 7 F gu 1 i a rea view of one embodiment of my n ent on shown in use. Figs- 2 and 4.. are end seetiona1 views of the same. Fig.- 3, is enlarged view of the collar showing the a ne th in- Fig- 5 is a iew of an: other embodiment of my invention showing a other form f fastening d vice.
The embodiment of my invention illustrated in Figs, 1. to 4 inclusive iS shown asc mpri ng a'b tly po tion 3 consis ing of a oft and do ny Subs anc such as cotton, ol r t like m n ed on a long and Or t p 2, and held ther in in a s ita e maner. V n p actice I mak use of a rop formed by twisting strands of cotton antiept al y reated whi h I s w upon a paper band which has also been subjected to an ant septio treatmen TW asteners a d 5 ar ho n as p ov de the trip W th t ir pins pointing in opposite directions. A stiffening piece 7 is provided to give body to the strip and allow for a firm grip of the fasteners thereon.
In making use of the embodiment of my invention illustrated the collar is placed about the neck of the individual with one edge 2 over the edge 2 in such a way that the pin 4 passes there through and holds it in place. The apron 6 is then folded over the shoulders of the individual and held in place by causing the edge 6 to be secured by the pin 4 and the edge 6 by the pin 5.
neck of the individual being. at all times fastened to the collar below the shoulder formed by the body portion 3. It is also 'ap parent that as the hair is cut and falls from the head of the individual it will be prevented from falling down the neck of the latter by the close contact of the body portion 3 of the collar therewith. The apron 6 is held in place by the pins 4 and 5 of the collar instead of being held by being tucked in and about the bare neck of the individual. When the cutting of the hair is completed the apron 6 is removed and thereafter the collar embodying my invention is thrown away never to be used again.
I do notlimit myself with respect to the material out of which the body portion 3 is made up nor do I limit myself with respect to the particular form of fasteners 4 and 5.
In Fig. 5 I have shown another form of fastening device in which a string 9 anchored to the part 8 on one end of the strip 2 is made to wind around the button 10 on the other end of the strip. The pin 11 is employed to support the apron 6.
It is obvious that various modifications may be made in the constructions shown and described within the spirit and scope of my invention.
' I claim:
1. A sanitary neck piece adapted throughout its entire surface to fit closely around the neck of the wearer and comprising a long narrow straight band of flexible material having a strip of softer material mounted along the upper edge thereof means for fastening together the ends of the band and means mounted on the band for supporting a hair cutting apron.
2. A sanitary neck piece adapted through out its entire surface to fit closely around the neck of the wearer and comprising a long narrow band of flexible material having a strip of softer material mounted along the upper edge thereof and common fastening means for securing together the ends of the band and a hair cutting apron to said band for the support of said apron.
3. A sanitary neck shield adapted throughout its surface to fit closely around the neck of the wearer and comprising a long narrow band having a strip of soft material along the upper edge thereof and common means for fastening together the ends of the band and for fastening to said band the upper edge of a hair cutting apron, said means being positioned at a substantial dis tance from the edges of said band whereby the edge of said apron is shielded by said band from the neck of the wearer.
fl. A sanitary neck piece comprising a long fiat narrow strip of flexible material adapted to fit throughout its entire length and width about the neck of the wearer and to con form to the curvature and shape of said neck, the ends being arranged to over-lap one another, and a device mounted on the strip near one end thereof and adapted to engage the other end of the strip at any point of their overlapping and thereby secure said ends in their overlapped positions said device being also adapted to secure a hair cutting apron to said strip for the support of said apron.
In witness whereof I have signed my name in the presence of two witnesses this 2d day of June, 1915.
ANTONIO TROIANO.
