LAMP-SHADE HOLDER.

Application filed February 21, 1925. Serial No. 10,809.

This invention relates to a lamp shade holder. The object of the invention is the production of a lamp shade holder which can be easily clamped to or detached from its supporting element. The second object of the invention is the production of a holder with clamping means, by which it can be detachably connected to a supporting element, without the use of screws, bolts, keys or other means that require adjustment.

The organization of the invention comprises a holder with a cam that can lock with or be clamped to a supporting element of a lamp.

is indicated with the neck 16. A lamp socket 17 is shown with its flared base 18, its clamping sleeve 20 and its bulb 24. The sleeve 20 is secured to the neck 16 by means of the clamping screw having the shank 26.

The lamp shade holder comprises the clamping bar with a central portion 31, having the circular opening 32 with the ex tension 33. From the lower face of the central portion 31 extends the annular cam with. the central high portion 35 and its tapered end portions 36. A frame in this instance the horizontal circumferential member 38, which is fastened to the ends of the bar 30. Bows 39 extend from the member 38 and support the shade or curtain 40.

The clamping bar 30 is placed in position with its opening 31 encircling the clamping sleeve 20, and the cam with its cam surfaces is brought to bear against the shank 26 of the screw 25, whereby the clamping bar 30 is tightly and adjustably clamped in place.

The upper ends of the latter are connected to the vertical members 45. Horizontal members connect the side portions of the frame.

The ends of the clamping bar 42 are fastened to the members 45 and 48 of one of the side portions of the frame of the lamp. The clamping bar 42, see Fig. 6 is again shown with a central portion 56, similar to 31 and the opening 57 similar to 32 and the extended opening 58 similar to 33. The central ortion 56 has extending therefrom the cam with the high portion 60 and the tapered end portions 61, respectively similar to 35 and 36. The bar is however modified by having formed in its central portion 56 an opening 62. The lamp socket is again shown at 17 with its flared base 18, its clamping sleeve 20 and its bulb 24 with its coil for electric current. The opening 62 serves as a clearance space for the coil 65 when the lamp socket is clamped in place. A shade or curtain 66 is provided for the frame of the lamp. The lamp socket is again secured in place as already described by engaging the shank of the screw 25 with the cam of the clamping bar 42. The hooks 46 are engaged with the head 68 of a bed or any other support.

Referring to Figs. 7, 8 and 9 the invention is modified by using a pair of clamping bars connected to each other instead of one. A pair of clamping bars 70 and 71 are shown at right angles to each other. Central portions 72 and 73 similar to 31 are provided for the bars, with their openings 74 similar to 32. The bars 70 and 71 are placed one over the other and clamped to each other by means of the sleeve 75. The said sleeve 75 on its lower edge has formed therewith a cam with the high portion 76 similar to 35 and the tapered end portions 77 similar to 36.

The lamp socket is indicated with the bulb 85, its sleeve 86, and clamping screw 87. The shank of the screw 87 is clamped to the cam as already described. A shade or curtain 90 is provided for the frame of the lamp.

Various modifications may be made in the invention and the present exempliiication is to be taken as illustrative and not limitative thereof.

Having described our invention what we desire to secure by Letters Patent and claim is:

1. The combination of a frame, a clamping bar with its ends fastened to the frame, said bar having a central portion with an opening, and said central portion having a clearance opening extending therethrough, a cam extending from said bar. and a lamp socket having a sleeve located in the opening of said central portion, said bar adapted to be locked in place by said cam.

2. In combination, a frame for a lamp, a clamping bar with its ends fastened to the frame, said bar having an opening, an annular cam extending from said bar adjacent to its opening, and a lamp socket with a por tion thereof located in the opening of said bar, said cam coacting with said lamp socket to detachably lock the bar in place.

3. In combination in a lamp shade holder,

of a frame for the lamp thereof, a clamping bar wi th its ends fastened to the frame, said bar having an opening, an annular cam with tapered ends extending from said bar adj a *entto its opening, a lamp socket with a sleeve, and a screw in engagement with said sleeve, saidsleeve located in the opening of the bar, said screw coacting with saidcam to clamp the bar in place.

4:. In combination, a frame fora lamp, a pair of clamping bars one over the other with their ends fastened to the frame, means to clamp the bars to each other, said bars having an opening extending therethrough, a cam extending from one of said bars and a lamp socket with a portion thereof located in the opening through the bars and coactihg with said cam to detachably lock the bars in place.

5. In combination, a frame for a lamp, a pair of clamping bars one over the other, with their ends fastened to the frame, said bars each having an opening axial with each other, a sleeve in said opening clamping the bars to each other, a cam formed with one end of said sleeve and a lamp socket with a portion thereof located in said opening said bars adapted to be locked in place by said cam. 1
