To all whom it my concern: v Be it known that I, Aoonrn: SCHERER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Lamp-Shade Holders, of which the following is a specification. a

My invention relates to lamp shade holders for attaching shades to lamp sockets.

Holders have usually been secured to the shade by pins, rivets, etc. and screwed onto the lamp socket. The shade is awkward to handle owing to its shape and very often a careless person, in screwing the holder with shade onto the socket, crosses or binds the threads. In attempting to loosen the threads, the shade is moved and forced in all directions and frequently torn from the rivets which fasten it to the holder. This requires repairing and ofttimes replacement of the shade.

The objects of my invention are to' provide a holder and attachit to a shade in such manner that it is practically impossible to tear it loose from its fastening, and a holder which will be free of unsightly rivets.

These objects, and other advantageous ends which will be described hereinafter, I attain in the following manner, reference being had to the accompanying drawing in which Figure 1 is a fragmentary plan view of a lamp shade having my invention applied thereto,

Figure 2 a section on line 22 of Figure 1, illustrating the parts in an unfinished position, and' Figure 3 a like view illustrating the parts in a finished position and attached to a lamp socket.

Referring to the drawings, 1 indicates a shade having a vent opening 2, 3 an outer ring flared outwardly at its lower end 4 and its upper end 5; 6 an inner ring within the opening flared outwardly at its lower. end 7 and its upper end 8; 9 a holder, preferably of spider form, having a threaded collar 10 and radiating arms 11, on the collar, having their ends 12 bent inwardly into hook shape and disposed between the

upper flaring ends

5 and 8 of the outer and inner rings. Inner ring 6, which may be continuous or in the form of a strip having overlapping ends, is expanded from the position shown in Figure 2 to the position shown in Figure 3 so that the edge around the vent opening '2 and] the hook shape ends'12 of the holder, will be clamped betweenthe lower and upper flaring ends ofthe rings as shown in Figure 3. If the nner ring is of strip, form'it maybe secured in -the expanded position by solderingthe overlapping ends with a few drops of solder shown in 'dot aridf-daslrlines a131 1n F1gur'e8.

This construction provides a reinforcement around the vent opening which is firmly secured to the entire edge of the vent opening and rigidly clamps the holder to the reinforcement so that it is practically impossible to tear the shade loose from the reinforcement or the reinforcement from the holder, when the collar 10 is screwed onto a lamp socket 14.

lVhile I have described my invention as taking a particular form, it will be understood that the various parts may be'changed without departing from the spirit thereof, and hence I do not limit myself to the precise construction set forth, but consider that I am at liberty to make such changes and alterations as fairly come within the scope of the appended claims.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. In combination with a lamp shade havrings, and a holder having its outer edges 2 clamped between the upper'ends of the rings.

2. In combination with a lamp shade having a vent opening; an outer ring engaging the edge surrounding the opening; an inner ring expanded within the opening and the outer'ring to clamp the edge between the rings, and a holder having its outer edges clamped between the rings.

3; In combination with a lamp shade having a vent opening; an outer ring having flaring ends engaging the edge surrounding theopening; an inner ring having flaring ends, expanded within the opening and the outer ring to clamp the edge between the lower flaring ends of the rings, and a holder clamped between the upper flaring ends of the rings.

4. In combination with a lamp shade having a vent opening; an outer ring engaging the edge surrounding the opening; an inner ring expanded within the opening and the outer ring to clamp the edge between the rings, and a holder provided with radial arms having hook ends-clamped between the rings.

5. In combination with a lamp shade having a vent opening; an outer ring having flaring ends engaging the edge of the shade surrounding the opening; an inner ring having flarin ends expanded within the opening and the outer ring to clam the edge between the lower flaring ends oithe rings, and a holder having inwardly extending edges clamped between the upper flaring ends of the rings.

6. In combination with a lamp shade having a vent opening; an outer ring having flaring ends engaging the edgeof the shade clamped between the upper flaring ends of the rings, and a*tl1readed collar on the holder.
