The present invention relates to garments, particularly to that type which are known as unionalls or overalls and are adapted to completely cover the clothing of workmen or others for protecting the clothing against soiling.

An object of the present invention is to provide a garment of this type which is of such structure that it may be easily put on and removed, and which at the same time embodies in its construction features which admit of the adjustment of the neck and adjacent portions of the garment to necks of diflerent sizes.

Another object is to provide a garment which may be opened at its upper end without providing openings at the shoulders and which carries out the object of the invention by merely front and back openings, so arranged and constructed that they may be easily, quickly and adjustably closed.

A further feature of the present invention is to provide an improved arrangement of back straps in conjunction with the back opening for normally pulling the opening together when the garment is worn and insure that the gap at the back is closed, and to also take up the strain and wear imposed on the back portions of the garment as the latter is being removed and put on. 4

WVith the foregoing and other objects in view, the invention will be more fully described hereinafter, and will be more particularly pointed out in the claims appended hereto.

Referring to the drawing, 10 designates the lower part ofthe garment which may comprise the usual leg portions and 11 designates the upper or body part of the garment to which the improvements of this inven tion are applied,

The body 11 may be, generally, of c011- ventional form with sleeves 12 and provided at its neck part with collar sections 13 and 14, These collar sections extend over the shoulder portions of the body 11 and the latter is provided with a front opening 15 of conventional form, which extends down the middle portion of the front of the body and which may be closed in any suitable manner, such as by buttons 16.

According to this invention, the back 17 of the garment is provided with a central vertical opening extending through the neck of the garment, so as to divide the neck portions 13 and 14; at the back, and when the front opening 15 and the back opening are released, the two opposite shoulder or side portions of the body 11 may be spread apart or separated, so as to facilitate the putting on and removal of the garment.

As shown in Figure 2, the collar vportion 13-is provided with two spaced apart sets of fastener members 18 and 19, the fastener members 18 being disposed in spaced relation from the rear end of the collar section 13, while the fastener members 19 are disposed adjacent said rear end of the collar section 13. The collar section 14: is proportion of the collar section 14 is extended over the flap 21 and is provided at its end with a complemental fastener member 22 adapted to interlock with the fastener members 18, one at a time according to the adjustment made. The flap 21 is thus held firmly in overlapping position across the back opening when the same is closed.

For the purpose of reinforcing the back 17 of the body, and assisting in maintaining the flap 21 closed, the back 17 is provided with a pair of back straps 23. The upper )nd of one strap 23 is secured to the upper edge portion of the back 17 adjacent to the collar section 14;, while the other back strap 23 is secured at its upper end to the back 17 adjacent to the collar section 13 at the 0pposite side of the back opening. These straps 23 are carried downwardly and converge and are crossed near their lower ends. The lower end of each back. strap 23 is secured to the back 17 at a point adjacent to the lower end of the back opening by a line of stitches 24. The connection of the back strap 23 to the back 17 is reinforced by a reinforcing fabric strip 25, which is secured by stitches 26 to the back 17 and by stitches 27 to the lower end portion of the strap 23, the strip 25 being so arranged as to fold transversely at an intermediate point on substantially the line of folding or 'hinging of the stra 23- above the line of stitches 24. At this point of folding. the strip 25- is socured by a line of stitches 28 to the strap 23 for reinforcing the connection.

lVhen it is desired; to put the garment on, it is only necessary to release the front opening 15 and to then release the fasteners 18 and 22' and 19 and 20. The two opposite or side sections of the body 11 may then bepulled apart as shown in Figure 2. As the straps 23 are secured to the back 17 at opposite sides of the back opening, the straps permit of the free spreading of the body sections and also prevent the ripping or tearing of the back 17 at the lower end of the back opening.

Then; the garment is in place, the side sections are pulled upwardly on the shoulders, soas to bring the collar sections 13 and 1% together at the back of the garment. This may be done, adjustably, by securing the fasteners 18 and 22 and 19 and 20 together as above explained and the flap 21 is thus brought over the back opening to close it, and the straps 23 are also drawn upwardly against the inner side of the flap 21 to hold it flat in position.

The straps 23 also take up the strains imposed through the shoulders on the gar ment so as to relieve the back 17 from such strain, and thus reinforce the body of the garment. The forward ends of the neck portions 13 and 14 may be provided with fastener members 29 and 30 of any suitable type adapted to be secured together for closing the front of the neck of the garment.

It is obvious that various changes and modifications may be made in the details of construction and design of the above specifically described embodiment of this invention without departing from the spirit thereof, such changes and modifications being restricted only by the scope of the following claims.

l/Vhat is claimed is:

1. A unionall comprising leg and body portions, said body portion having front and back openings and a two-part collar disposed between the openings, means for securing the front opening in closed position, means for securing. the back opening in closed position, and reinforcing strain relieving straps arranged in the back of the body portion and secured in crossewise relation with respect to each other andto the back opening.

2. A unionall comprising a leg portion and a body portion, said body portion having intermediate front and back openings, means for fastening the front opening in closed position, adjustable means for fastening the back opening in closed position and including a closure flap carried upon one edge of the back opening and adapted. to overlap the opposite edge of the opening, and a pair of strain relieving and back closing straps secured in crossedrelation in the back of the body portion and across said flap and the back opening.

3. A unionall comprising a leg. portion and a body portion, said body portion having a front opening, means for closing thefront opening, said body portion also having a back opening and provided with afiap at one side. of the opening. adapted to overlap the opposite sides thereof, means for adjustably closing. the back opening to accommodate the neck of the body portion to different sizes, and a pair of straps secured at their upper ends to the; upper part of they back portion at opposite sides of the back opening and extending downwardly in crossed relation with respect to each other and to the back opening, said straps securedat their lower ends to the back portions at. points adjacent to the lower end of thebac'k opening for relieving the back of strain and maintaining the opening in normally closed. position.

A unionall comprising. a leg portion and a body portion, said body portion having: a. front opening, means for securing the front opening in closed position, said body portion also having a back opening and provided at one edge thereof with flap ada pted tooverlap the opposite edge of the back opening, said body portion having-a two part neck band extending between the front and back openings and extending into the top portion of said flap, rows of complemental fasteners on the rear ends 01 said neck portions for adjustably connecting the same together, adjustable fastening means between the fiap and the oppositeneck portion ,for adjustably securing the flap in overlapping relation, and a pair of crossed strain relieving straps secured in the back W of said body portion with their upper ends adjacent said collar sections and their lower ends secured to the back portion adjacent the lower end of the back opening.
