D. M. HART HAT PROTECTOR y Filed June 22'. 1925- t wm lNvENToR A WI l" vll/lrl/llvllll 'Il PatentedV Junev14, 19727. y
HAT Pnomnc'ronf f A-ppnatin ined. June: gaf-192,5. seiai No. Becca kThis invention relates to a rainfproof cover or protectionjforstraw hats and refers more particularly to an improved design.
Y 'The main object off the Vinvention is to provide a rainfproof cover orp'rotectorr af-` r fording absolute protect-ionfrom,rain.k
Afurther object Vof the inventionis to Aprovide av device 'of simple `construction and one whlchymay. be easily manufactured,\
. 5A, further object of .the invention is tol provide a device which .may he readily api plied overthe straw hat.
'5A furtherv Objct is toprovidea' device which is collapsible and. may be carried in the pocket atsuchtimeswhen it ishot in placeover the straw hat. k p. Y l
A 'further` Objectis to provide aldevice which has no loose or detached parts or fittings ,whichmight be lostor mislaid.
A further `object is to provide a device whichV will conform or adapt itself to the shape of the straw hat over f which it is Yplaced and in such further featuresvas will vmore fully hereinafter appear.
For furthe-r comprehension of the `invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had tothe follow'- VVing description and accompanying drawing, and to the appended claims in which the various novel :features of the invention are more particularly set forth,
Fig. l is a perspective view of my device, showing said deviceinplace over the straw hat, as it would appear when-readyl to be worn. s i
Fig. 2 is a'sectional view of my device, as shown in said 1. l
Fig. 3 is a section view of my device, as it appears when open; or'not in place over said straw hat. Y, y
Fig. 4 `isa modified form ofrmy deviceas shown in said Fig. 2.
Describing in detail the device shown in the drawing.' .y
The cover proper 5, may be made of any suitablewater-proof material, such as water- Y proof treated material'sor sheet rubber, or
any .suitable fabricated material, owing to its shape orv form in order that said cover 5 will properly conform to and fit the kstraw hat 6 which may be of any size, shape or pattern, said cover 5 is made up of two pieces cemented or so attached to each other, l so as to form practicallyY one piece, The
l AffixedsA at method @alarmering 'said pieces win .of
course depend upon the material to be used.
cover 3, I have shown said extremity or 'edge Y turnedbackso as to form aretainer for a'tapeor strip 8 of Iany suitableelasticy material. l.
material. In Fig;v l, Fig. 2, and.l likewise in 4, I have shown said band 9 in place on .said cover 5, aslt would appear when saidcoverf isattached Tor. inplace on Said straw hat 6;r in Fig. 3 krIhave sho-wn said band 9 aslit appears attachedto vsaid cover ,5,but notin placeoversaid straw` hat. 4
In Fig. if I have shown a modification of my device, in which the strips l0 or'pieces of any suitable material arefixedly attached i to said cover5 inthe manner and position shown. so as to cause said cover 5 to have Va pitch or slant as .shown in here-before mentioned Fig. 4. The strip or projection 10 is centrally located onthe top of the hat 6 between the waterproof covering 5 and the top surface ofthe crownV l1, and the strip 10 is disposed in the `angle formed between sides of the crown and the brim of" the hat. The strip 10 is secure-d `to the covering member l5 on the inner surface there of; preferably comprisingelastie material extendedaround the circumference Vof the crown.
` -It will thus be seen that the invention not only comprises .an absolute rainproo f device; but that said device may be easily manufactured and fabricated. Y
Furthermore; it will be readily seen that the invention'provides a deviceV which may be readily applied over the straw hat, and'` n {At the lower extremity` or edge 7 ofj said the` proper location I have shown ,attached by means A.of any suitable method a` band 9 of any suitable elastic While I have shown and describedk a pre` v ferred embodiment of my invention it is to be understood that vI do not limit myself to the precise construction` herein disclosed, and the rightvisk reserved to all changes `and modifications coming within` the scope of the invention as dene-d in the appended claims.
lVhat I claim as my invention and which I desire to protect by United States Letters Patent is l. In a rain proof covering for enclosing straw hats, ay substantially circular ridge conforming to the juncture of the crown and brim of the hat, and a pad for resting on the middle of the crown, both attached to and forming part of the covering, so that when said covering is drawn over the hat, the covering on top of the crown and brim will slope downwardly and outwardly to allow the rain to escape readily.
2. A rain proof covering for straw hats comprising a sheet covering member disposed over the upper surface of the brim and crown of said hat and folded inwardly adjacent the lower surface of the edge portions of said brim, and padding secured to the under surface of said sheet covering material and disposed in the angle formed by the junction of the side or' said crown and said brim for inclining the covering of said brim.
3. A rain proof covering for straw hats comprising a sheet covering member disposed over the upper surface or' the brim and crown of said hat and folded inwardly adjacent the lower surface of the edge portions of sai-d brim, padding secured to the under surface of said sheet covering material and disposed in the angle formed by the junction of the side of said crown and said brim for inclining the covering of said brim and a .pad secured to the under surface of said sheet covering member and positioned substantially at the center of the top of said crown for retaining the central portion ol' the covering of the top of said crown elevated and the adjacent portions inclined to the plane of said top.
il. A rain proof covering for straw hats comprising a sheet covering member for the crown and brim of a hat, and a part secured to the under surface of said sheet corering member and positioned substantially at the center of the top of said crown for retaining the central portion of the covering ol" said top elevated and the adjacent portions thereof inclined to the plane of said top.
In testimony whereof I have afiixed my si gnature.
