My invention relates to bathing caps and has as one of the principal objects thereof the provision of a bathing cap equipped with means on the marginal edges thereof for coacting with t the head of a wearer to form a liquid tight seal whereby to preclude water entering under the cap and wetting the hair.

Another object of my invention is to provide a cap of the character described which is simple in construction, durable in use, efficient in opera.- tion and economical in manufacture.

Other objects and advantages will be apparent from the following description, appended claims and annexed drawing.

Referring to the drawing wherein like reference characters designate like parts throughout the several views:

Figure 1 is a front elevation of my invention. Figure 2 is a side elevation thereof as applied to the head of a wearer.

Figure 3 is a detail sectional view taken on the line 3-3 of Figure 2.

Figure 4 is a front elevation of a modified form. Figure 5 is a fragmentary elevation of a modifled form of head engaging element.

Figure 7 is a detailsectional view taken on the plane of the line 33 of Figure 2 but illustrating a modified form of my invention.

In practicing my invention, in the preferred embodiment illustrated in Figures 1 to 3 inclusive of the drawing, I provide a bathing cap 5, preferably constructed of an elastic and waterproof material, for instance rubber, and of a configuration to conform to the contour of the head of a wearer. The bathing cap 5 is provided with a frontmarginal edge 6 fitting about the face and forehead and with a lower marginal edge I embracing the neck and terminating at the front thereof in a pair of peaks 8 integrally connected with' the lower ends of the marginal edge 6. a

' The lower ends of the peaks 8 have secured thereto straps 9 provided with fasteningelements Ml whereby the peaks may be secured under the chin of the wearer in the usual manner. The inner face of the marginal edges 6 and I are each provided with a sponge rubber band ll which gradually decreases in thickness from its outer face to its inner edge as clearly illustrated in Figure 3 of the drawing. The inner face of the band, adjacent the head and neck of the wearer, is covered by a strip of felt rubber I2 which extends inwardly beyond the sponge rubber band and is attached to the inner face of the cap.

In use, the cap is positioned on the head of the wearer in the-usual manner and the peaks are secured under the chin by means of the E straps 9. When thus positioned, the strip l2 engages the head and neck of the wearer and due to the resiliency of the sponge rubber interposed between said strip, the cap is maintained in engagement with the head and neck to provide be a water tight seal and preclude the entrance of 'water under the cap.

A cap of the above described character is especially useful to ladies for afiording protection to waved hair by precluding the wetting of w the latter.

In the modified form illustrating in Figure 4-, the marginal edge of the cap surrounding the face may be provided on the exterior face thereof with a decorative embellishment I 5 to enhance 20 the appearance of said cap.

In the modified form illustrated in Figures 5 and 6, the strip 20, covering the sponge rubber band, may be provided on the outer face thereof with a plurality of intersecting annular projec- 25 tions 2| forming within said projections suction pockets 22 whereby to frictionally secure the strip to the head and neck. By thus providing the sponge rubber band with the strip 20 in which are formed the pockets 22 the sponge rubber 30 band, which is of a highly resilient nature, serves to maintain the projections 2i in engagement with the head and neck and thus reliably secure the strip thereto against displacement and to preclude leakage therebetween.

In the modified form illustrated in Figure 7, the sponge rubber band 23 is provided on each face thereof with a suitable cement 24 for attaching said band 23 to the cap 25 and for securing the strip 26 thereto. A construction of 40 this character precludes the seepage of water into the cap between the inner face of the cap and the band and/or between the inner face of the strip 26 and said band.

It is to be understood that various changes and modifications may be resorted to in the con struction and arrangement of my invention without departing from the spirit of the latter or scope of the appended claims.

What I claim is:

1. A bathing cap provided with marginal edge sections adapted to embrace the head and neck of a wearer, a sponge rubber band secured to the inner faces of said sections, and a strip of pliable material covering the inner faces of said band and secured to said sections inwardly of the band, said strip ooacting with said band for engagement with the head and neck of the wearer to form a liquid seal about said head and neck to preclude water entering within said cap and provided on the outer face thereof with suction pockets for frictionally securing said strip to the head and neck of the wearer.

2, A bathing cap provided with marginal edge sections adapted to embrace the head and neck of a wearer, a sponge rubber band secured to the inner faces of said sections, and a strip of pliable material covering the inner faces of said wearer to maintain said cap in adiusted position on the wearer.
