1 Application filed ma 22, 193i; s m ir gsioesig;
My invention relates to bathing caps and has forits object to prove a construction of bathing cap having attached to a portion thereof a device adapted in combination 1 with the body of the cap to prevent water entering the interior of the cap when said device is placed in position upon the head of the wearer. The "invention therefore broadly considered contemplates the provision of a bathing cap with a device'for excluding water from the interior of the cap,
thereby preventing the wetting of the hairof the wearer. More particularly my new.
' and novel bathing cap is designed to prevent access of water beneath the rimof the bathing cap, particularly in the region of the ears of the wearer where such water is most likely to seep into'the interioro f-the cap andthus wet the hair. a
A further objectofthe'invention'is to provide a bathing'cap which consists in a unitary structure of cap and a band which maybe applied to the head with facility and despatch occasioning very little trouble in the course of itsgadjustment to'th'eproper position on the head. I amaware of prior structures which comprise a combination of a bathing cap having a body portion adapted to fit loosely over the head of the wearer and a band of material adapted to be placed upon the head so as to cover the rim of the body portion of the cap in the region of the nape of the neck, the ears and the forehead for the purpose of preventing water from passing beneath the rim of the cap, but all of such prior structures employ some particular means of making the band watertight. My invention contemplates a combination of a skull cap fitting tightly over the head of the wearer to conform with the irregularities of the head and to cover the hair up to a point above the ears. My device for preventing access of water to the interior of the skull cap comprises a band of elastic or elasticized material attached through a portion of its length to the edge portion of the rear of the skull cap and adapted to be passed over the ears, and then over the front portion of the cap, through a loop provided in the front of the skull cap, back over the ,capupon the head of the wearer;
.ears to a point in the rea'r ofthe capwhere the extremities ofthe band are adapted to be united by suitable fastening means' The invention will thusibe seen to're side in certain features, arrangement of parts and combinations of elements more particularly to be described hereinafter with reference to the accompanyingdrawing which forms a part of this specification. I
In said drawing;
ing cap' at the first stage of its process of application tothe head of the wearer,- the V Fig.1 illustrates new and novel bath- I skull cap'having been placed in position and v the ban'd being in position ready to be passed through the second step of the process of adjusting the cap properly to the head.
"Insuch figure a portion of the band has been broken away to show clearly the manner in 1.
'which the skullcap is fitted tojthe head of l the wearer.
"Fig. 2 illustrates in front'elevation, the second step ofthe process of applying my novel bathing cap to the head, the tabs ofv the band having been passed through a loop at the front of theskull cap.
Fig. 3 sh-owsin side elevationthe bathing cap with its band secured" in final position,
having been passed over the ears andfastenedin the rear. i Fig. 4: shows a front cap. as worn) 4 I I V 1 Fig.1! shows'a rearview ofthe'bathing .Fig. 6 shows'a plan view of myinovel View of the bathing bathing cap with the two;tabs' of the band thereof extended forwardlyto their full length before the .tabs. are secured about the head of the wearer.
Fig. '8 asection along line 88.of F ig. 7.
' Referringmore particularly to; the draw- 'ing,fin which similar reference characters f'identify'similar partsin' the several views, 10 is afskull' cap of the usual elasticmaterial designedto fit snugly over the head or. the "wearer, the edge portion of said Skullcap circumscribing the head of the wearerimmediately abov'e the ears. To the back of the lower portion "of the cap 1 and extending apioo of the tapered ends 14 of thetabs 12 and'13 so that such tabs may be pulled through such 'loopt'o an extent illustrated in Fig; 2,1. -e;, so 0 that the tape or band 11 will fit snugly over, 3
proximately the distance between the ears of the wearer is attached as, for instance, by cementing, a tape or band 11 of rubber or rubberized material, such tape or band terminating' at its two ends intabs 12 and 13,
extending from points on each side of the skull cap approximately those at which the ears of'the wearer meet the cap.) In my preferred form, the tabs 12 and13have'their end portions tapered to a narrow width at the ends 14 thereof. Qne ofsaid tabsglZ,
13 is provided with a plurality of male members 15, 15 of a snap fastener structurefthez other of said tabs being provided with a plurality of female members 16, 16 of'such snap fastener structure;
The skull cap 10" is provided a tthe front po'rtion'thereoflwhich will'ass'ume' a position approxiinate'ly infthe'middle of the forehead when thebathing cap is placed'upon the'head of the wearer, withz'a loop 17 of preferablyelasticizedmaterialsuch loop being permanently securedto the skull cap as, by cementing; The loop 17 is of suchlengthand width that it will permit the passagetherethrough the ears. and over the edge of the skull cap 10.
' Thetabs 12 and'l13 after havingbeen passed throughv the loop 17 in o'pposite directions may then be folded backwardly over the. edge I of the skull cap and over the ears, to the back of'the head where they may be secured to each other by means of the fasteningdevices comprising the male and female members '15 and "16 of the snap fastenerstructure. I
.The 1001117 may, as shown inFig. besecured to the skull cap by cementing the one end thereof to the interior of the skull cap material and thev other end thereof to theexterior surface of theskull cap at a point sufficiently above the. lower edge ofthe cap. to
provide the proper height oftheloop so as to permit the passing therethrough ofthe tab portions 12 and 130mm band 11.
Theband of my novel cap need not be se-' .1.e(1j with any degree of tightness causing discomfort. I claim:
1. The combination in a'bathing cap, of
a-skull 'cap forming a body portion adapted to. fitsnugly over the head of the wearer and a band of elastic material attached through a portion ofits, length to tlie edge portion of'the rearoffsaid skull cap and overlapping "thesame, said band, in the; application of the} hat to the head of the wearer,havingitsifree ends passedover the ears, then over the front portion. of the ta and back over a point at. the'reanof the cap.
, 2. The combination in a bathing cap, of a sln'ull ca forming a bodyv portion adapted to fit, snug y over the head of the wearer and having a loop. permanently secured" on the front face thereof, anda band of; elasticma.
terial attached through. a portion. of its length to. the edge portion of the jrea-r of said skull, cap overlapping the same and provided w t aplu a i yioi operat g; S p fa ner elements on its end -portionssaid band, in the application of thehat tothe head of the wearer, having its free; portions passed overtheears, then overthe frontportionof the cap throughsaid loop, and back over the ears, to a point at the rear ofthecap, where the extremitie's-of said free portions are united by said cooperatin fastener elements.
- iIELEnBRoscn.
Asshown alsoin Fig. 7 the portion of the tape or band 11 which is attached tothebody of the skull capcomprises only a fraction of ,the. width of saidband and is securedto the e I skullcap through a length just sufficient to the wearer, I I It will beseen of water into the interior of the capisjeliminated. In the usual typeof bathing cap, the lower circumferential portion .of the cap 'pass. beyond f the. position of the ears when w. the bathing cap is placed over the head of 1 that my novel bathing cap',lha ving its body'portion fit snugly over a the head above the ears, the means of access body: covers the ears, affording the. slight pa e fi w n. the e a he. dge of the cap through. which Water may enter.
