IMPROVEMENT IN METAL WEAR-PLATES'FOR THE TREADS OF BOOT AND SHOE HEELS.

Be it known that I, JAMES M. EWING, of Washington, county of Washington and District of Columbia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Metal Plate for the Heels of Boots and Shoes, of which the following is a specification:
The nature of my invention consists in a circular revolving plate pivoted to the under side ofa boot or shoe heel, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, which forms a part of this specification, and in which- Figure 1 is a side view of a boot-heel embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a bottom view of the same; and Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section through the line a: m, Fig. 2.
A represents a boot or shoe heel of any suit- B represents a circular plate or disk, smaller than the tread of the heel, and pivoted to turn upon its center a, in such relation to the heel that a portion of its perimeter shall correspond with the side of the heel at the point where it first meets the ground, so that it may be continually turned to present a new wearing-surface with every step. 7
If the plate B were stationary on the heel, one side of the plate would soon be worn down, as in walking the heel is invariably put down more or less to one side from the center.
With my invention the circular plate or disk is turned on its pivot a short distance every time the heel strikes the ground, and a new part of the edge of the plate is presented at every step. As a result the plate is worn equally all around.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A circular revolving plate or disk, pivoted at its center, and attached to the under side of a boot or shoe heel, all arranged and operating so that a portion of its perimeter shall correspond with the side of the heel at the point where it first meets the ground, substantiallyas shown and described.
