IMPROVEMENT IN HEELS FOR BOOTS AND SHOES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 175,998, dated April 11, 1876; application filed July 30, 1875.
To altwhom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CONRAD JENSEN, of Boston, Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Boot and Shoe Heels, of which the following is a clear, full, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making a part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 represents a skeleton in perspective of my invention. Fig. 2 represents the same complete.
My invention relates to spring-heels for boots and shoes, and consists in the combination of devices hereinafter described and claimed.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe the exact manner in which 1 have carried it out.
In the drawings, a represents a flat spiral metal spring, secured between the metal plates b and c. The screws dd are for fastening the heel to the boot or shoe. The rubber covering a closes the opening between the plates, as shown in Fig. 2, and a leather tap, b, is attached to the under side of the under metal plate.
By the use of this heel artificial power is supplied through the metal spring confined between the metal plates, which assists in lit'ting the foot, and quickens the step, and renders Walking easier and more comfortable. It is also evident that a heel thus constructed is not so liable to wear 011 on one side as the ordinary leather heels, and will be less noisy from the tread.
I am aware that metal springs have been used in boot and shoe heels, inclosed within telescopic sections, but this is not my invention, as I do not claim, broadly, the use of metal springs in heels; but
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A boot or shoe heel constructed as described, and consisting of the metal disks 1) c, the metallic spring a, and screws 01, in combinanation with rubber covering a and leather tap b, substantially as described.
