Description

D. P. MOKITRIGK.
SOLE PROTECTOR.
No; 250,829. Patented Dec. 13,1881.
' UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
DAVID F. MGKITRIOK, OF MARYSVILLE, OHIO.
SOLE-PROTECTO R.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 250,829, dated December 13, 1881.
Application filed July 18, 1881. (No model.)
To all whom tt may concern: V
Be it known that I, DAVID F. MCKITRICK, of Marysville, in the county of Union and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sole Protectors and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanyingdrawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form part of this specification.
This invention relates to an improved soleprotector for boots and shoes; and it has for its object to provide a device that can not only be employed for preventing wear in new boots and shoes, but which may be used for leveling or restoring boots or shoes that have become partially worn.
The invention further has for its object to provide a device that will not interfere with the elasticity of the sole, so as to permit the sole to spring as usual under the ball of the foot. These objects I attain by the devices illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 represents a shoe with my protector attached, and Fig. 2 a detail view of the protector itself.
The letter A indicates my improved protector, which is constructed of metal in two parts, as indicated by the letters a b. The said parts are provided with interlocking lips c at their adjoining edges, the said lips being oppositely beveled at their ends, as indicated by the letters (I e. The outer edge of the respective parts maybe formed with a flange, g,
to set against the edge of the sole; but said flange may be omitted, if found desirable.
The device is secured to the sole by means of screws h passing through suitable apertures, the interlocking lips permitting the sole to yield and bend under the ball of the foot, as is apparent. I
For adults shoes and heavy shoes in general, two lips are generally employed on one part of the device and one on the other; but for childrens shoes and other light shoes but one lip on eachpart may be employed. It is evident, however, that more lips on each may be used iffound convenient.
I am fully aware the state of the art shows that, broadly speaking, a sole protector for boots and shoes is not new, and I therefore confine myself to the specific construction of my device.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The within-described sole protector and leveler, consisting of the two parts, a I), formed with flange g and oppositely-beveled lips c a, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
DAVID F. MGKIIRIOK.
