SHUTTLE PROVIDED WITH A HAND 0R AUTOMATIC THREADING DEVICE.
Application filed October 20, 1925, Serial No. 63,587, and in France November G, 1924.
My invention relates to "shuttles for weaving looms which comprise a weft yarn threading device of any known type.
It is an observed fact that the major part of the shuttles comprising known yarn threading devices, employed in hand-operated, power or automatic looms, have upon one side a guiding slot which serves to bring the yarn into the output eye; it is further observed that the output orifice of the said eye is as a rule situated rearwardly of the outer surface of the cheek or lateral face of the shuttle, and to this effect the said orifice opens flush with the bottom of a the major part of the length of the outer surface of the said cheek or ment affording for the part of the yarn issuing from the output eye a recess in which the said part of the yarn will be protected during the alternate displacement of the,
shuttle, along the bottom part of the loom lathe. I
But it frequently happens that this arrangement will facilitate the unthreading, due to the fact that the curled parts which are formed, when the shuttle commences to travel, upon the part of the yarn issuing from the output eye, will accumulate at the orifice of the said eye, so that the yarn will ascend in the guiding slot and thus leave the threading device with greater or less facility according to the type of threading device employed.
My invention has for its object to obviate this drawback whereof the consequences are detrimental for various reasons, and it re lates to improvements in shuttles of the aforesaid type. Said improvements are further applicable to shuttles in which the outer surface of the cheek or lateral face is unprovided with a longitudinal slot, and in which the orifice of the output eye is flush with the said surface.
Ihe aforesaid improvements will be described hereunder with reference to the appended drawings in which:
Fig. 1 is a side elevation of the shuttle comprising my said improvements.
Fig. 2 is a cross-section of the cheek on the line Z- -Z ofcFig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a like cross-section on the line Y-Y of Fig. 1.
As in the ordinary type of shuttle, the present device includes the check or lateral face 1 in which is formed the guiding slot 2 lateral check, this arrangecommunicating with the' output eye 3 whose orifice opens flush longitudinal slot 4. k
In accordance with the present invention, at each side of the output eye 3 and at a short distance therefrom there is formed within the slot at a recess 5 of suitable shape and area, the depth of which exceeds that of the said slot; the two recesses being connected together by a straight longitudinal groove 6. The said groovepasses through and cuts the said output eye, and its width is just sufficient to enable it to receive the yarn issuing from the said eye, being such that the bottom of the groove 6, whereof the ends communicate with the reits depth with the bottom of the cesses 5, shall besubstantially at the same level as the bottom of the said recesses.
Due to my said improvements, it will be observed that the kinks or tangles of the yarn,.which are formed when the shuttle is moved across a lathe from one box to another, will be lodged in one or the other of the recesses 5 according to the direction of motion of the shuttle and held therein be- 5 tween the cheek of the shuttle and adjacent side of the shuttle box, while another portion of the yarn is lodged in the adjacent portion of the groove 6. Y
By reason of its being held in said groove by engagement of the cheek of the shuttle with the side of a box, tangle in the groove, and as the shuttle is projected out of its box any tangle in either recess 5 will be retained therein by contact with the side of the shuttle box and hence will be prevented from reaching said eye, thereby obviating the breaking or unthreading of the yarn.
lVhat I claim is:
l. A shuttle for weaving looms having a longitudinal slot in one cheek and a lateral guide slot communicating with the first named slot and terminating at its outer end in' an outlet eye for the yarn, said cheek also having recesses formed therein on opposite sides of said eye and within said longitudinal slot, and'said cheek further having a longitudinal groove extending through and on opposite sides of said eye and into said recesses, said groove stantially equal to the thickness of the yarn so as to receive said yarn as it issues from the yarn will: not
being of a width sub- 2. shuttle for Weaving looms having a longitudinal slot in one cheek and a lateral guide slot communicating with the first named slot and terminating at its outer end in an outlet eye for ,the yarn, said cheek also having; recesses fornied therein 'on opposite sides; of; said eye and Within said lone gitudinal slot, said recesses being of a greater. depth than said longitudinal slot,
10 and said cheek further having a longitudinal groove extending through and on opposite sides of said eye and into said recess'es, said groove being of a Width sub
