LOOM SHUTTLE ATTACHMENT.

This invention relates to loom shuttles and more particularly to weft replenishing shuttles of the bobbin changing type.
It is now the ordinarypractice to deliver the weft thread from shuttles-of the filling replenishing type through a side delivery eye at one end of the shuttle with the result that the length of thread between the cloth selvage at one side of the loom will be greater than at the opposite side thereof. In weaving ordinary widths of fabric this difference in length of the weft thread at opposite sides of the loom compared with the length of the weft thread laid in the shed has no objection able effect on the cloth selvages, but in weaving the narrow fabrics this difference results in sufficient difference in weft tension at opposite sides of the cloth tocause one selvage to be drawn tighter than the other and differ in uniformity and appearance.
The object of the present invention is to provide a weft replenishing shuttle of the bobbin changing type with means for delivering the weft thread through an exit near the center of the longitudinal length of the shuttle and properly guide the tliread'froin the end portion of the shuttle to the exit near the center of the shuttle and thus equalize the length and consequent tension of the thread at each side of the loom.
The invention comprehends numerous other objects residing in the specific details of construction and arrangement of the parts, all of which are more particularly pointed out in the following detailed description, and in the claims directed to a preferred form of the invention, itbeing understood however, that various changes in the shape, size and arrangement of the parts may be made Without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as herein set forth.

The body of the shuttle is indicated at 1,
and which is of the usual form now known 3 and in common use in the art, having the bobbin 2 mounted in the central portion in the usual manner as clearly shown in Fig. 1. At one end, theshuttle is provided with suitable guiding mechanism indicated at 3 which guides the thread leaving the shuttle during the operation of the loom. in the usual opei ation of the shuttle, the thread passes along the shuttle in its motion across the lay of a 100m in one direction from the end having the guide mechanism 3 to the opposite end thereof and as is well known in the art, the shuttle is usually provided with a grooved surface which receives the thread and permits it to be freely passed therefrom.
Brushes which are indicated at 4 in Fig. 1 are provided for the purpose of placing a tension on the thread in order that it will not kink in the fabric, due to its being discharged too freely.
This invention provides a means for guiding the thread from a .point near the end of the shuttle adjacent the guide mechanism 3 to a point near the center of the longitudinal length of the shuttle, where the thread is delivered through a thread exit, thereby equalizing the length of thread and consequently its tension between the cloth selvage and shuttle at each side of the loom.
As shown the front face or wall of the shuttle l is provided with a recess adapted to receive a plate 5 formed of a strip of suitable metal so that the outer face is flush with the face of the shuttle. Toward the lower end of the plate as shown in Figs. 2 and 5, the same is provided with a cut-a-way portion 6 while the edge portions above this cut-a-way portion is rolled as indicated at 7 for receiving and guiding the threads.
The opposite ends oi the plate member 5 are formed With extensions 8 at predeten mined points directed laterally from the plate and terminating in laterally extending seats 9 Which are parallel to the plate 5 and suitably bifurcated and adapted to lit Within the recesses 10 in the shuttle for engagement under the head of the securing bolts ll. lhese securing bolts are those normally used for securing the shuttle and parts in assembled relation, and also s re to mount the plate member 5 in operative position on the shuttle.
The side of the shuttle mounting the plate member 5 as shown in Fig. 2 is formed with a groove adjacent to the rolled edge at 12, and ii desired the strip member 5 may be secured by attaching means inserted through openings 13 intermediate the ends.

Having thus described my invention, What I claim as new is v l. A shuttle for Weft replenishing looms of the bobbin changing type consisting of a shuttle body provided with a threading bloclr oi" the usual slotted t -gpe and a thread exitlocated near the center or the shuttle, and a plate ertending longitudinally of the shuttle and provided with a rolled edge constituting a thread guide between the threading block and thread exit.
