Said block I! has its outer side surfaces I8 and I9 preferably parallel With each other and its bottom surface 20 substantially at right angles thereto. The body portion of the threading block I 1 is tted into a complementally shaped groove 2| in one end of the body portion I I) ofthe shuttle.
The body portion of the threading block I'I is provided with a longitudinal channel 22 through which the filling thread I4 passes to the side delivery eye I3 during the Weaving Operation as said lling is laid into the cloth.
y The threading block I 'I may also be provided with a rearwardly extending horn portion 24 and 3 an intermediate horn portion extending into the longitudinal channel 22 of the threading block I1, said portion serving to assist in the initial threading of the block and in the retention of the filling thread therein, after the initial threading operation has been completed.
At the inner end of the threading block I1, that is the end disposed toward the bobbin, there is mounted a pair of tension members 26 and 21. The inner end of the threading block I1 is recessed vertically as at 28 for the mounting of said tension members 28 and 21 therein. The lower ends of the tension members are provided With suitable apertures 29 through which extends a pin 3l) mounted in the lower portion of the inner end of the threading block I1.
The upper end of each of the tension plates is bent over as at 3| to provide lug-like extensions 32 which are positioned respectively in suitable apertures 33 drilled in the upper portion of the inner end of the threading block I1. In this manner the tension plates are guided at both the top and the bottom.
For the purpose of imparting the requisite tension to the members 26 and21 so that the same will grip the filling thread as the same passes therebetween, there are provided coil springs 34, which are Ipositioned in hollow screws 35 which are threaded in the side walls of the threading block in vertical alinement with the guide pin 30, at the bottom and the guiding apertures 33 at the top. The hollow screws 35, in Which the springs 34 are mounted serve to provide means for regulating the degree of tension on the members 26 and 21.
The main or body portions of the tension members 26 and 21 may be of any desired configuration in cross section, as for example, they may be provided with flat faces 36 and have angularly disposed flanges 31 along the side margins thereof which are disposed Within the thread channel, and the similar angularly disposed flanges 38 along the thread entrance side thereof each have a further extending flange 39 substantially at right angles to the main faces.
The additional vflanges 39 are disposed on the side toward the bobbin chamber and extend into additional grooves 40 provided in the inner face of the threading block I1, overlapping the edges of the inner recess, thereby effectively preventing the entrance of loops which may occur upon reversals of motion of the shuttle, or when for any reason the thread overruns, and also effectively serving to prevent dust and lint from the filling thread from passing into the space behind the tension plates, enabling the same to function effectively at all times without interference from such sources.
I claim:
l. In a loom shuttle of the automatically 4 nal thread channel through which the filling thread passes from the bobbin to the outlet, tension members mounted in the threading block, springs mounted in the threading block pressing the tension members toward each other, angularly disposed portions along the sides of the tension members, and an additional laterally extending flange along the thread entrance side of each of the tension members, said fianges overlapping the sides of the thread channel at the entrance end thereof thereby to provide guards to prevent thread loops and lint from passing behind the tension members.
2. In a loom shuttle of. the automatica threading type having a threading block mounted in one end thereof and having a longitudinal thread channel through which the filling thread passes from the bobbin to the outlet, tension members mounted in the threading block, springs mounted in the threading block pressing the tension members toward each other, the threading block having a recess, at the entrance end of the thread channel, and the tension members having portions extending into the sides of said recess and overlapping the sides of the thread channel thereby to provide guards to prevent thread loops and lint from passing behind the tension members. l
3. In a loom shuttle of the automatically threading type having a threading block mounted in one end thereof and having a longitudinal thread channel through which the filling thread passes from the bobbin to the outlet, tension members mounted in the threading block at the entrance end of the thread channel, springs mounted in the threading block and pressing the tension members toward each other, the threading Vblock having a recess at the entrance end of the thread channel, and the tension members having portions extending into the sides of said recess and overlapping the sides of the thread channel thereby to provide guards to prevent thread loops and lint fromY passing behind the tension members.
4. In a loom shuttle of the automatically threading type having a threading block mounted in one end thereof and having a longitudinal thread channel through which the filling thread passesfrom the bobbin to the outlet, tension members mounted in the threading block at the entrance end of the thread channel, springs mounted in the threading block and pressing the tension members toward each other, the threading block having a recess at the entrance end of the thread channel, and flanges along the sides of the tension members extending into the side portions of said recess and overlapping the sides of the thread channel thereby to provide guards to prevent thread loops and lint from passing behind the tension members.
