A. c. BROWNELL.
Bath-Tubs. No.i6'l,324. PatentedMarch30,1875- WITNESSES THE GRAPHIC COJ HDfO 'LITILSQ 8:41 PARK PLAOLN-Y- AsA c. BROWNELL, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN BATH=TUBS.
Specification fo'rmirg part of Letters Patent N0. 16 1,324, dated March 30,1875; application filed September 4, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, AsA O. BROWNELL, of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Bath-Tubs; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being bad to the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this specification, in which- Figure l is a perspective view; Fig. 2, a longitudinal Vertical section.
This invention relates to certain improvements in bath-tubs; and consists in the peculiar arrangement of parts, whereby is c011- structed a combined plunge and sitz or foot bath; and also in the combination, with the two compartments of the tub, of a single overflow and dischargepipe, as hereinafter more fully explained.
In the drawing, A represents a bath-tub, having a partition, B, which forms on one side the plunge-bath O, and on the other the sitz or foot bath D. The sitz-bath D is simply an extension of the casin g A of the pi un gebath, the sides being cut away to adapt it to the convenience of the sitter, and to render it also equally convenient as a foot-bath. By means of this arrangement the two baths are combined in one and the same casing, which combination is especially desirable on account of its compactness as an article of domestic utility, the two baths occupying but little more space than the single plunge-bath, and being so arranged that they may both be used at the same time, if desirable. E is the main discharge-pipe, which opens into the bottom of G and D through the wasteplugs F and G.
.H is vertical pipe, which terminates in the plunge-bath in the perforated overflow I, and communicates through a connecting-pipe, K, with a similar perforated overflow, J, in the sitzhath.
By means of this arrangement we have an article of great domestic utility, which com bines at once all the advantages of the plunge, sitz, and foot baths, which is compact in form, and has but a single overflow and discharge pipe.
I know that it is not new to combine a sitz with a plunge bath. I therefore disclaim the combination, broadly, and confine myself to the peculiar construction of the sitz-bath contained within an extension of the plunge-bath casing, and adapted by reasons of its construction to the uses of a foot-bath, and also to the combination of the foot or sitz bath, as thus described, with the overflow and discharge pipes of the plunge-bath, as set forth in the claim.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is- The sitz or foot bath D, having its sides cut down, as described, in combination with the overflow-pipe H and discharge-pipe E of the plunge-bath 0, all constructed and arranged substantially as shown and described.
The above specification of my invention signed by me this 31st day of August, 1874.
ASA (J. BROW'NELL.
