Toall. whomdt may concern Be it known that- I, CHARLES C. HALL, 0 Boston, in thecounty of Suffolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements. in Wash Stands, of which the following, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, is a specification.

My invention relates to the construction of wash-stands or commodes; and it consists, first, incombining with the ordinary. commode or common wash-stand, provided with a hinged or removable lid or cover, a watertight tank or tub, adapted to be extended beyond the ordinary limits of thecommodecas ing, and to serve the purpose of a bath-tub, and to be retracted withinthe. casing when I not in use as a bath-tub.

Myinvention further consists in the combination of a casing provided with a hinged or removable lid or top, a pivoted tank or tub adapted to be folded into. said casing. or extended beyond the same, and: a. seat fixed in the back part of the casing, and above the top of the tub when in its extended position.

My invention further consists in the combination of a commode-casing, a pivoted bath tub or tank, and a hinged or pivoted brace adapted to engage with the rear end of said tub when in position for use, to lock it in position and prevent the tub from being accidentally tilted, as will be described.

My invention further consists in the combination of a commode-casing, a pivoted tub or tank, a brace or pawl adapted to engage with the rear end of the tub, and a cord attached to said brace and leading therefrom to the interior'lof the commode-casing, at apoint conveniently accessible to the party using the tub, without moving the commode away from the wall of the room.

My invention further consists in the combination of a commode-casing provided with a seat in its interior and a hinged or removable cover or lid, a pivoted tub or tank inclosed within said casing, and adapted to be extended therefrom in a horizontal position, and one or more drawers located in the rear ofsaid tank and beneath the seat, and adapted to be drawn out from the end of the commode-casing.

D is a square tank or tub, lined internally. with zinc, lead, or other metal, so as to make it water-tight, and pivoted at a to the ends A of the commode-casing, in such a manner that the bottom of said tank, when in position for use as a bath-tub, shall rest upon the upper edge of the base-board B, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, and when in position for use as a commode shall be just flush with the edges of the end boards A A of the casing, as shown in Fig. 3. E E are legs or supports, hinged to the tank D, as shown, and adapted to support the outer edge of the tank when in I bear in the rear of the pivots a and the baseboard B. The brace F is forced into the notch b by the action of gravity aided by the spring I c, and may be, disengaged by the cord d, attached thereto, and leading therefrom through the back board A to the interior of the casing. G is a seat, fixed in the rear part of the casing at a convenient height above the top of the tank when in position for use as a bath tub. and in the rear of said top edge of the tank when turned up into the casing, as shown in Fig. 3. H is a drawer, located beneath the seat G, and in the rear of and above the tank when in position for use as a bath-tub, and adapted to be drawn out from either end of the casing.

This drawer may be made to extend from end to end of the casing, and pull from either end; or two shorter drawers may be used, one to pull from each end of the casing.

To the under side of the cover or lid 0 is attached the downwardly-projecting lip or rib O, for the purpose of covering the ends of the legs E E, and the hinges by which they are secured to the tank when the parts are in the position shown in Fig. 3. I

The tank D is provided with the dischargepipe 0, through which the water may be drawn from the tank into a pail by removing the p f- I do not claim,broadly, atank or tub adapted to be used for bathing purposes and to be folded into an inclosing casing, irrespective of the size, form, or construction of the inclosin g casing, as I am aware that bathing-tubs have been combined with a wardrobe-shaped case; but such devices were only adapted to be used for the purposes of bathing.

What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, 1s-

1. The combination, with a casing of suitable height to adapt its top to be used for the ordinary purposes of a toilet wash-stand when closed, and provided with a hinged or removable cover, ofa water-tight tank or-tub adapted to be extended beyond the limits of the casing for use as a bath-tub, and to be retracted within the casing when not in use, substantially as described. v

2. In combination with a casing provided with a hinged or removable cover or lid, and made of suitable height to adapt its top to be used for the ordinary purposes ot'a toilet washstand or commode when closed, the pivoted tank D, adapted to be folded into the casing or extended beyond the same, and the seat G, all arranged and adapted to operate substantially as and for the purposes described.

3. The combination, with a commode or wash-stand casing, of the pivoted tank D and the brace or pawl I adapted to engage with the rear end of the tank D and lock it in position for use, substantially as described.

4. The combination, with a commode or wash-stand casing, of the pivoted tank D, brace F, and cord 11, all arranged and adapted to operate substantially as and for the purposes described.

5. The combination, with a commode or wash-stand casing provided with ahinged lid or cover, of the pivoted tank D, the seat G, and one or more drawers, H, located beneath said seat and in the rear of said tank,'al1 arranged and adapted to operate substantially as and for the purposes described.
