LQ ZLEQTFD INVENTOR. EDWARD D. MEURE A TTORNEY.
EDWARD DUNSCOMBE MOORE, OF UTICA, NEW YORK.
PORTFOLIO-KITCHENETTE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 25, 1917.
Application filed April 27, 1916. Serial No. 93,984.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWARD DUNSCOMBE MOORE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Utica, in the county of Oneida and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Portfolio-Kitchenette, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a portfolio kitchen-,
ette and I declare the following to be a full clear, concise and exact description thereof sufficient to enable anyone skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings in which like reference characters refer to like parts throughout the specification.
The object of the invention is to provide a portfolio kitchenette for household use, whereby the essential articles and many conveniences for kitchen work can be combined in a single piece of furniture. The device may be easily and quickly closed, when not in use, so as to occupy a minimum amount of floor space. Ordinarily, the kitchenette will be disposed in the corner of a room and, when used, opened in such manner that it will form in conjunction with said corner a small room, whereby to conceal the user.
Furthermore, the kitchenette can be moved easily to any desired part of the room or be transported from one place to another with equal facility.
The portfolio kitchenette is provided with every kitchen utensil necessary to good housekeeping and will be found of particular value to persons who live 'inlimited quarters not provided with the facilities for housekeeping, such as a single room, a fiat or small apartment or cottage, where city conveniences are not to be had. Moreover, the combination of a water supply tank, a sink and a catch basin, will be found to be of inestimable value in such a device.
The object of the invention will be understood by referring to the drawings, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of the portfolio kitchenette;
Fig. 2 is a detail enlarged view, showing a perspective of certain bars employed for keeping the sections from moving beyond a given angle in relation to each other.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, the portfolio kitchenette embodies two sections 1 and 2 of equal dimensions either of which might be taken as the door. The sections 1 and 2 are made preferably of formed by the brackets sheet metal and are hinged together by the hinges 1-4 illustrated in dotted lines in Fig. l. The sections are kept from moving beyond an angle of ninety degrees with respect to each other by the bars 50 and 51 which are swiveled together at 52. The opposite ends of the bars 50 and 51 are swiveled to the respective walls of the sections 1 and 2. The bar 51 has a recess 53 adapted to receive the upturned projection 54: of the bar 50, whereby to prevent said bars and, therefore, the sections 1 and 2 from moving past the given angle. Levers 5-5 having handles 6 are pivoted to the section and are adapted to be swung into the slots 7-7 fixed to the casing of section 2. The handles 6 will lie beyond the brackets 7, in this latter position, whereby to lock the sections together, when not in use. Both sections are provided with casters 8, whereby the kitchenette may be moved easily from place to place.
Section 1 is divided into lower and upper compartments b a horizontal partition 10 that is located ust below the center. The upper and lower chambers are divided again by the vertical partition 11. In the compartment 12 there is attached to the walls a towel rack 13, a looking glass 14;. a soap box 15 and a shelf 16 which supports awater reservoir 17. The reservoir 17 has a faucet 18 disposed over a sink 20. The sink 20 is drained through the pipe 21 which leads into a waste can-22 located in the compartment 23 directly below. the compartment 12. The cover 21 of the waste can 22 is provided with a loose fitting aperture for the projection of the pipe 21, whereby said cover can be raised to permit of the removal of the can 22, for emptying its contents.
The upper right hand compartment 25 has a warming closet 26 formed by the door 27 in conjunction with the adjacent sides of the section 1-. warming closet 26 is perforated to allow the warm air, 28, to pass therein. A pipe or flue 30 having a damper 31 is disposed over the warming closet 26, to permit of the escape of the heated air therefrom, when desired. An ordinary stove pipe or flexible tube 32 is attached to the pipe or flue 30 to conduct the heated air from the warming closet 26 to a chimney or perforated extensible board disposed in an ordinary window-frame.
The under surface of the which rises from the gas stove its match box 33 is attached to the Wall of the compartment 25. l
A portable oven 35 adapted to be u'sed upon the gas stove '28is disposed in the compartment 36. Hooks 37 are attached to the Walls of this compartment for suspending kitchen utensils.
The section 2 is divided off by a vertical partition 40 and several horizontal partitions 41 into many compartments. A small refrigerator 42 is located in one of the said compartments and is drained through a flexible tube 43 connecting the interior of the refrigerator 42 With the Waste can 22. A drop shelf 44 is hinged to the edge of one of the partitions to form a Work board inconjunction with thebase of the compartment to which it is hinged. A fireless cooker 46 is disposed Within another one of the compartments. Hooks 37 are attached to the Walls of a compartment in the section 2, as illustrated in the section 36 of the section -1, for the suspension of kitchen utensils.
A garbage receptacle 60 is kept ithin compartment 23 of section l-.
Having thus described my invention What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. In a portfolio kitchenette, a cabinet comprising tWo sections of-equal proportions hinged together,a Water supply tank, a sink disposed beneath said tank, a catch basin and a Warming closet in one section, compartments in the other section, a refrigerator in one of said compartments, a drainage pipe from saidrefrigerator to said catch basin, and a drop shelf to form a Work board in the other section.
2. In a portfolio kitchenette, a cabinet EDWARD DUNSCOMBE MOORE.
