Description

H. ARND.
Y Bath-Tub.
No. 228,722 -Fnrremteee June 15,1880.
WFD-leases Ny PETERS. PHOT UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HENRY ARND, OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI.
BATH-TU B.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 228,722, dated June 15, 1880. Application led September i2, 1879.
To all whom t may concern Be it known that I, HENRY ARND, of St. Louis, in the county of St. Louis and State of Missouri, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Bath-Tubs; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and oper- Y ation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, makin g a part of this speciflcation, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure 1 of the drawings is a representation of a top-plan view, and Fig. 2 is a longitudinal vertical section.
This invention relates to that class of devices known as bath-tubs ,77 and the object thereof is to provide such'a bath-tub that may be set up in any room of a house and be readily used as plunge, shower, or vapor bath.
The invention consists in a special form of rack for the support of a hose, in connection with hot and cold water supply pipes and faucets, as will be hereinafter more fully described, and specifically pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings, A represents a bath-tub constructed f sheet metal o rjvpmuid lir ed with sheet met-al, to wli'cvhUisMsnpplied hot ancMcblVwater by "neans of suit-able pipes B O, having faucets or cocks d b, thc saidtub being provided with `a water-tight door, D, to allow ofingress'and egress. To the inside of this bath-tub A is secured a notched rack, c, for the purpose of holding a hose, E, having a removable sprinkler, d, at different elevations, to allow of the washing of any portion of the body while the leather is using his hands rubbing or Soaping his person, the said hose being coupled to a faucet or cock, F, at the union of the hot and cold water supply pipes B O.
A shower-bath may be arranged by placing` the hose in a notch in the rack c above the head, or by suspending the same from a wire, e, placed across the top ofthe tub. The sprinkler d may be readily removed from the hose E when not desired for using as a shower or for Washing the person, and the full stream of water allowed to ow for the purpose of filling the tub for a plunge-bath, the dirty water being drawn off through the usual dischargepipe fitted with a plug or stopper, f.
Upon the inside of this tub, below the faucets or cocks (t b, is secured a box, G, for the pur pose of holding soap and towels, and the tub is also provided with a'stool or seat, h, having its bottom perforated, this stool or seat allowing the bather to be seated while washing.
When a vapor-bath is desired a foot-stool,
t', similar in construction to the stool or seat h, is also provided for the purpose of keeping the bathers feet out of the hot water.
By constructing a bath-tub of the above description I provide one that may be placed in any room, and in which a plunge, shower, or vapor bath may be taken without having to close the entire room while the bather is occupied with his bath; and in cases of sickness, when a vapor-bath is desirable, the patient may take his bath and not be exposed to chill when emerging therefrom, as is often the case where the bath-room is isolated from the other rooms of the house.
As this bath-tub is intended to be fitted with an ornamentalv cornice around its top, and to have its exposed portions suitably ornamented, it will form a handsome as well as desirable object of furniture to any toilet or bed room.
Having now fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The bath-tub A, of any suitable form or design, provided with the door D and the hot and cold water pipes B O, hose E, and notched rack c, said pipes B O being coupled to the faucet F at their junction, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
HENRY ARND.
