HOLDER FOR SAFETY-RAZOR BLADES.
Application filed May 8, 1926.
This invention relates to holders for safety razor blades and more particularly to that type of thin or relatively thin blade having a series of circular perforations in the body thereof, or having slots in the center thereof, the familiar thin wafer blade commonly used in safety razors being one form of blade which is adapted for my improved holder.
An object of this invention is the provision of a holder for a safety razor blade which. will permit the blade to be readily inserted and removed from the holder and in which the blade is safely secured.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a holder for safety razor blades having a minimum weight and in which the body of the holder may also be used as a handle for the blade in various operations in which such blades are useful.
Further objects of the invention will be apparent from the specification and drawings in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved holder in the closed position,
Figure 2 is a perspective view of my improved holder in a partly open position showing the blade in dotted lines,
Figure 3 is a sectional view along the line 33 of Figure 2, the manner of detaching the blade being shown in dotted lines,
Figure 4 is a plan view of the holder and blade, wherein the holder is completely enfolded,
Figure 5 is a sectional view along the line 55 of Figure 4,
Figure 6 is a sectional View along the line 66 of Figure 4, and
Figure 7 is a perspective view of the ordinary flat, thin safety razor blade for which my improved holder is especially adapted.-
The holder essentially consists of a body which may be made of any suitable light fabric such as cloth, artificial leather, paper or other bendable material which is provided in sheet form, and this body is provided with a series of snap fasteners B, C and D, in which the female members are positioned on the inside of the holder, the heads extruding from the outside of the holder as Serial No. 167,591.
will be apparent from Figure 5. The cooperating male members for these snap fasteners are positioned on the end flap of the holder and are denominated B, C and D respectively. As will be apparent from an inspection of Figure 2 and Figure 4, the male member B of the fastener is located on the outerside of the body A where the male members C and D are located on the inside of the body A, so that the snap fasteners C and D are used to confine the blade E and the snap fastener B is used to completely close the holder as shown in Figure 2.
lVhere it is desired to utilize the cutting edge of the blade E, the top flap F of the holder may be bent backward along the line H leaving a free end of the blade exposed for cutting purposes.
It will be apparent that by this arrangement I have devised a holder which is simple and economical in construction and which is light and safe. Although I have shown a preferred form of holder in this particular embodiment I may make the holder from different kinds of fabric for different kinds of flat, thin razor blades, and may also vary the position of the fasteners from time to time.
Where the holder is alsoused as a handle for cutting purposes, it may be desirable to reinforce the body of the holder adjoining the unexposed edge with a metal or fabric reinforcement so as to prevent the unexposed edge from cutting through the body of the holder while using same. Further changes may be made in the form of the holder without departing from the spirit of my invention.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim is 1. In a holder for a razor blade, the combination of a flexible body bendable into a series of flaps, a series of snap fasteners inserted into said body, two of said fasteners fitting the perforations of the razor blade to be held, so as to securely hold same in position, a third fastener serving to fasten said holder, said body serving to completely enclose said razor blade or serving as a handle for said razor blade when one edge thereof is in an exposed position.
2. In a holder for a razor blade, the e01nbination of flexible body bendable into a series of flaps, a series of snap fasteners in sorted in said body, said fasteners fitting the perforations of the razor blade to securely hold said razor blade in position, one of said fasteners serving to close said holder, said body serving to completely enclose said razor blade or serving as a handle for said razor blade when one edge thereof is in an exposed position.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
