IMPROVEMENT IN OVERALLS.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 160,537, dated March 9, 1875; application led October 30, 1874.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, JONAS MOORE, of the city of Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented new and useful Improvements in Overalls, of which the following is a full description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figurel is a front elevation; Fig. 2, a crosssection.

The object of this invention is to make overalls without any openings except at the ends, and to make them so that any size will fit; and its nature consists in making them Without opening, and in so attaching crossstrips at the back of the waist that they can be drawn down to a fit by such straps, and

be held without other fastening.

In the drawings, a represents the body; b, the waist, c, the strap-tube; d, the crossstraps; c, the point of attachment 5 f, the buckle or clasp.

These overalls are made of any suitable material, and are made large, so as to easily lit the person, and are made usually about tifty inches in the waist, and are drawn down to t the Waist ofthe wearer, which leaves them roomy in the seat, so that in stooping no particular strain will be on the cross-straps d.

By attaching the cross and twisted straps at c, as shown, and making them to ll the tube c, they are held together by and at the point of crossing, so that they will hold up the overalls without any further or additional support. rlhis arrangement also brings the excess of the material at the back, so as to relieve them when stooping.

Whenever it is desired to open them, a direct pull on the front will open the waist, when they can be slid down for any desired purpose.

I have applied a buckle or clasp, so that if any additional support is desired, or if it is desired to have the strengthening effect of a belt, these crossed and twisted bands d maybe buckled or clasped in front.

By this arrangement I produce a pair of overalls which can be readily put on or off, and which are made to iit at the waist Without special tting in the manufacture, by simply drawing up the straps, and there are no buttons to be pulled off, or button-holes to tear out.

Bands for holding the straps d in place may be used in place of the tube c.

What I claim as new is as follows: v

The overalls, substantially 'as described, having straps d, crossed and twisted, as at e, and filling the tube c, as specied, whereby the garment is held up without additional support or fastening, all constructed as and for the purpose set forth.
