ZENSAKU ISHIWATA, OF LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA.
HAT-RETAINING DEVICE.
Application filed September 2, 1925. Serial No. 54,067.
The present invention relates to an improved device for keeping the hat in position upon the head to prevent the wind from blowing-the hat off.
The object of the invention is to provide a device of this character, which may be manufactured cheaply, or inexpensively, to provide a hat securing device which may be applied for use to any hat, which may be drawn in beneath the sweat band of the hat when not in use, or detached from the hat, and to provide a securing device which is inconspicuous in use, and .to provide a device for retaining the hat, which may be quickly drawn from beneath the sweat band when it is desired to use the same.
To accomplish the objects of the invention, I provide eyelets adapted to be secured to and inserted in the sweat band or" the hat and on either side thereof, cords tornied into a loop to engage with the car on either side of the hat, means for adjusting the cords for use, and a ring attached to the loop whereby the same may be quickly drawn from beneath the sweat band for use.
lVhile the drawings illustrate a preferred form of the invention, it will be evident to those skilled in the art, that my invention permits of various modifications without departing from the spirit thereof, or the scope of the appended claims.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved hat retaining device. Fig. 2 is a sectional and perspective view of a hat having my device applied thereto.
Referring to the drawings, the device consists of an elastic cord member 11, formed into a loop, and having on one end a metal eyelet 12, to which the free end of the cord 11, is tied to form the loop and to adjust the same to the ear of the user. The cord loop is passed through eyelet 13, which is adapted to be secured to the sweat band 14:, The eyelet member 12, prevents the cord loop from being drawn through the eyelet 13, when in use, and remains concealed beneath the sweat band. The adjusting ring 15, is attached to the loop on the outside of the sweat band, and affords a means for quickly drawing the device outward for use.
In use, the device is first applied to the sweat band of the hat in the manner above set forth. The loop is drawn out and is passed under the ear of the user. The hat is equipped with a retaining device, one on either side of the hat.
From the foregoing description taken in connection with the drawings, it may be seen tiat I have provided a simple and etlicient device for retaining the hat upon the head of the user, when the wind is blowing. By the use of this device the hat is retained in position, and is especially advantageous while the user is riding on a car or steamship or in an automobile.
W hen. not in use, the device may be drawn inwardly and will lie beneath the sweat band, and will be concealed thereby. The eyelet 1.2, and ring 15, serve to prevent the device troin being detached from the hat and lost, the ring 15, being provided with a bar 16, which cannot pass through the eyelet 13, and which will remain close to the sweat band when the device is not in use.
l rhat is claimed is:
1. In a hat retaining device, the combination with an eyelet adapted to be secured to the sweat band of the hat and adjacent'to the ear of the user, 01 a cord loop including an external portion passed through said eyelet, an eyelet member on theinner end of said loop, and normally lying beneath the sweat band, said external portion of said loop engaging with the ear of the user, a ring attached to the cord loop and exteriorly with reterence to the sweat band, and a bar i11- tegral with the ring.
. 2. In a hat retaining device, the-combinat on with a cord loop adapted to engage with t e car of the user, of an eyelet adapted tosecured to the sweat band, said loop passthrough the eyele in the sweat band,
means for preventing the loop from being detached from the eyelet in the sweat band consisting of an adjusting eyelet inside of the sweat band, and a ring secured to the loop on the exterior of the sweat band, and a bar integral with the ring.
3. In a hat retaining device, the combination with an eyelet adapted to be secured to the sweat band adjacent to the ear of the user, an elastic cord loop passing through the eyelet in the band, means for adjusting the loop to the ear, and means on the outer and inner ends of the loop, serving to prevent detachment of the device from the eyelet in the sweat band.
In testimony whereof, I hereunto afl'ix my signature.
